Anne Sacoolas: Extradition notice sent to US for diplomat's wife over Harry Dunn death news.sky.com/story/anne-sacoolas-extradition-notice-sent-to-us-for-diplomats-wife-over-harry-dunn-death-11905753

Apologies if the link doesn't work, I've never tried one before.

I'm wondering what others' opinions are about whether she will actually get what's coming to her? She disgusts me, to be honest. The circumstances are clear-cut that she was at fault and she's just run away from the whole thing! I'm very curious as to whether the US will grant the extradition notice. Gut feeling says no.

What does everyone else think??

I sincerely hope the US does extradite her but I don't think it'll happen. ☹️

WomanInTheWindow · 11/01/2020 10:27

It's appalling she does not get to be held accountable. But so what? The system always favours those with privilege. It won't change anything.

LissJas · 11/01/2020 10:34

Maybe she'll come back as part of a plea bargain, if she's allowed to face a lesser charge and any time in custody to be spent in the US. That kind of thing.

Woman - I'm sure I've read somewhere that she wasn't entitled to use diplomatic immunity for some reason, but I can't find where.

its awful and i feel so sad for the grieving family.
she should come back and I hope she does.

flapjackfairy · 11/01/2020 10:39

Sadly I don't think she will ever face justice. Though the stress of having the threat of extradition hanging over her must be some kind of punishment in itself. I think I would prefer to face it head on myself and get any punishment over and done with. It must be v hard for her to live with herself !

madcatladyforever · 11/01/2020 10:41

I would not have run personally. Its better to face the music then and there than spend your life on the run waiting for that day when you are going to be extradited.

GCAcademic · 11/01/2020 10:42

This is how I feel. I can only assume that she's an extremely callous person if living with this situation (extradition threat + having killed someone) is preferable to her than facing the music.

Stillfunny · 11/01/2020 10:45

She may have taken advice from lawyers not to hand herself in before she is charged.

stophuggingme · 11/01/2020 10:47

I think the fact she arranged to be smuggled out of the country on a private plane after mowing someone down tells you everything you need to know about this person.

I hope she is extradited and faces justice but I will be amazed if this happens.

Horsemad · 11/01/2020 11:07

Ah but we do have a 'special relationship' with the US (apparently), so fingers crossed, eh?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/01/2020 12:05

If she was a single mother on Welfare she’d soon be extradited.

VivaLeBeaver · 11/01/2020 12:06

Yes, I hope if nothing else it’s costing her a lot of stress and also a lot of money on lawyers.

UYScuti · 11/01/2020 12:08

She is despicable ☹️

LissJas · 11/01/2020 12:29

A potentially lengthy jail term would be inappropriate for someone "of her standing". Angry

I am actually having a discussion fullonargument with my dp about this.

He thinks that she shouldn't be extradited because it would set a worrying precedent for those claiming immunity in the future, i.e. it would be unfair for them to labour under false pretences when they think it should be absolute. And apparently that is more important than Anne being held accountable for what she did.

Right now I think he's being a dick.

OP posts:
UYScuti · 11/01/2020 12:32

Surely it is incumbent upon someone of her standing to set a good example and not go around killing people and then running away
How can we say that she is a person of good standing after she has a run away from a crime scene that she created like some low down piece of scum
People of good standing don't act like scum

BoxedWine · 11/01/2020 12:48

They'll never extradite her and she's not going to come voluntarily.

The other stuff that's happening to her will be her punishment: that's her husband's career over now, everyone she knows will be aware of what she's done, she will need to be careful about which countries she travels to. It's not nothing, I suppose.

ProfessorSlocombe · 11/01/2020 12:51

I am much more interested about the secret treaty that she was promised "immunity" under than I am about her individual situation.

  • Why was it "secret" ?
  • Why did US intelligence officers stationed in the UK need immunity from prosecution ? What exactly were they up to ?
  • What other criminal acts have gone uninvestigated under this treaty ?

Call me alarmist, or just a silly old person, but from where I am typing it seems that under this treaty (that no one was aware of until last year) a US intelligence officers spouse (not even the officer themselves) could go out, assassinate a UK citizen and skip of back to the (literal) "land of the free" with nary a care.

I'm not expecting much from the shower of morons currently running the UK, but I'd hope that treaty gets pulled into a court somewhere, where it can be publicly examined. If nothing else it seems any "diplomatic immunity" being claimed is not via the Vienna Convention.

CalamityJune · 11/01/2020 12:56

I hope she faces justice. I can't understand how she can live with herself and the cowardly manner in which she has behaved. I think it shows a great amount of contempt for UK law.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/01/2020 12:57

Has America ever extradited anyone? What was it they said ‘it’s not fair’ or something like that? Such hypocrites.

ChateauMyself · 11/01/2020 12:58

I wonder if an international warrant has been issued for her?

If the U.S. chooses not to extradite her, then this would severely restrict her movements (along with her husband - if she want’s to be a trailing spouse/work abroad).

If the U.S. choose not to extradite her then I think the U.K. should (in parts) rethink our ‘Special Relationship’. We have Due Process and a transparent legal process. This was not a trumped up ‘spying’ case.

Also, a country can choose to remove immunity from their national if they choose, in order for the host country to investigate/charge/try a person - if indeed A.S. was ever covered by diplomatic immunity.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/01/2020 12:59

We in live near a lot of embassies and residences and the joke is always ‘the D plates can run over your granny and get away with it’.

One in particular is one a one way street and the inhabitants are always zipping the wrong way because they don’t want to take 30 seconds to turn the right way into the road and around the block. I complained to the council who helpfully put up a road sign opposite the car park. It continued to happen so I complained again - they fixed the problem by taking the sign down.

Not so bloody funny now.

UYScuti · 11/01/2020 13:02

Other stuff that's happening to her will be her punishment
Yeah now everyone can see who she is and it's not a good look is it...rich woman callously killed a teenage boy

BoxedWine · 11/01/2020 13:04

She's still driving too, so obviously not worried about killing any more children with her incompetence.

Lordfrontpaw · 11/01/2020 13:05

Whatever happens to her isn’t justice though is it? I’m sure she feels bad about it - but that’s not justice. Why can she run away and not face the music? She isn’t being persecuted on trumped up charges in a country with a dodgy justice system.

She committed a crime and has been charged and she can’t just say ‘nah, don’t want to’.
