What is your best pain killer?

Got discharged yesterday after incisional hernia repair. They went in where my hysterectomy scar was. The pain is 20 times worse. I am on paracetamol, Tramadol and Oxycodone. Is it worth buying ibuprofen?

Ive been up all night.

A hard pillow pressed against the wound.

Saw this on a surgical ward, was invaluable when I had my gallbladder out. It was far more effective than any painkiller I took.

How did you cough?

With the aid of the pillow Smile

Otherwise it was agony.

Oh I feel you. I had to have a hernia repair at the same time as my hysterectomy. I felt like an old woman when I got out.
Yes a pillow is a good idea, you don't want to take too many painkillers and they can bung you up and constipation on top of excruciating stomach pain is a nightmare I can tell you from experience.

Us the pillow as a buffer or shock absorber so if you need to cough or move position, try to get as much bed rest as you can but roll out of bed rather than get up, and be more careful than you thing you need to be. Hernia repairs can damage quite easily so look after yourself.

Whenever I say hernia repairto people they just shrug their shoulders like its an everyday thing. I do think the ones post op must be different.

Son, daughter in law and cousin all had hernias done within a year of each other
All excruciating
My son had to have his done twice as it got infected
I was very worried
It was healing nicely then told after a week he could have a bath
Instead of a shower
Big mistake
Infection got in

Yes im a week down the line now and Ive been told not to get the dressing wet som thats going to be fun😄 ive cut right down on the painkiller. I get a horrible cough though when i go to bed. Did they have to wear a girdle contraption? Im not sure how long i have to keep it on for.

Usually, I take Ibuprofen to relieve pain. But I'm not sure it will be the right decision to take several meds at once. Maybe it is better to ask a doctor.

Please ring 111. If you’re on that much pain relief and it isn’t helping you may need checking to make sure you don’t have an infection or something else going on somewhere. If all good they’ll be able to prescribe oramorph which is the next step up - but you can’t take tramadol at the same time. (I take lots of strong pain relief regularly for lupus).
