Will I still have my surgery with a sore throat - as GA is not mandatory?

I have a small elective op (a minor one on my calf muscle) scheduled for Monday. I don't believe a general anaesthetic is necessary, they can also do it with a spinal block and sedation - surgeon gave me the impression that GA is more common, just because that is people's preference.

I would personally prefer to avoid the GA at all costs and opt to be awake for such a small procedure, although I appreciate that they prep you for GA just in case they have to put you under suddenly.

I had a sore throat and mild cold a week ago, and unfortunately the sore throat has returned. I don't have a fever or a cough, I feel fine apart from this sore throat and I'm usually fit and well. Are they likely to postpone it? Unfortunately I can't speak to anyone until Monday which is when I'm due in anyway...

Try throat spray, it will banish the sore throat for Monday.

Will it? OK, will def go and get some - if it's gone today I can almost legitimately say on Mon that it has been more than 48 hours...

Gargle with cooled salt water, it’ll taste horrible but it really does work. You should be ok if your only symptom is a sore throat.

Unless it is bothering your breathing they will go ahead. If the cancelled ops for sore throats and mild colds, surgeons would have most of winter off work.

Eww, yes good idea Woody.

Yeah that's true I suppose Boob. I got cancelled once as a kid when I had a slightly raised temperature and no other symptoms - but that was for a tonsillectomy, and it was 1984.

Well now I feel pretty rubbish, have taken paracetamol and hope it doesn't develop and further. Still no cough.
