Any way to factory reset Android?

Apologies for the dullest topic.
DS has broken his iPhone so DH has said he
Can have his own Android (Xperia). Problem is the phone is linked to DH's old Google account (which he can't remember any log in details for).

I've tried to reset it but not working.

Is there anyway to wipe everything and start again? Really annoying as it's a perfectly good phone

Ensure the device is powered off.
Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Down button (located on the right edge of the device) until the Sony screen appears then release.
From the System Recovery screen, select Factory Reset.
Note Utilize the Volume buttons to scroll through the menu options and the Power button to select.
Select Yes.
Note Utilize the Volume buttons to scroll through the menu options and the Power button to select.
Note Allow several minutes for the factory data reset process to complete.

Copied and pasted from the Verizon wireless site.

Thanks @Magneticred unfortunately it goes through to the general start up screen rather than reset when I hold down power and volume down button

It's under settings/general management on my Android.

& I reset an S9 yesterday but not sure on the button presses. Definitely do-able though.

Maybe youtube would have a tutorial? There seem to be tutorials for everything on there

Find out what specific model it is, then google it.

Settings > General Management > Reset > Factory data reset

All you need is your phone's PIN/Pattern

On my Xperia it's Settings > System > Reset. I haven't gone any further than that, obvs.
