Hi... I'm off to Vienna on my own next month for 3 days... I'm very excited!
What did you enjoy doing or not enjoy? Wont be doing the Spanish Riding Stables as I grew up with horses and am allergic to them!
Did you buy the Vienna Pass is it worth it?

Bumping as I am going for work soon and will have half a day free. I’m told everything of interest to tourists is close together so walkable and easy to fit a lot in.

I went a few years ago for a Ball. I can definitely recommend Glacis Beisel for dinner. They are on Facebook. If you love art then the MuseumsQuartier is great. Klimt's work is at the Belvedere and I wasn't disappointed seeing The Kiss in real life. I had Sachertorte at the Hotel Sacher - touristy but still enjoyable. Also check out the Demel Café/Bakery (also on FB and Insta as KuK Hofzuckerbacker Demel). Its an easy city to walk around. We went to a concert at the Kursalon - again its touristy but I enjoyed it. Also, some of the churches have concerts, if you pop in you'll see them advertised. Enjoy.

Hoping to visit in the summer so following with interest :-)

Schonbrunn Palace and Gardens, also zoo - do a tour of the rooms.
Haus Des Meeres Acquarium in a flak tower - great rooftop views - there is a lovely gentleman that is in a room in the tower that tells you all the history of its use in WW2
Prater Park and ferris wheel
Imperial Burial Vault
Danube Tower - long walk to it though

@ Sewingbea summer in Vienna is roasting unless you are planning to come in May or June. August is unbearable, all the Viennese clear out to the mountains to cool down.
Demel is nice for cake, Cafe Central is even better and the interior is amazing. Belvedere is fantastic, especially if you like history and art, especially upper Belvedere for Klimt and the impressionists.
OP what kind of thing are you interested in? It’s easier to suggest things based on your interests.

We'll be there in July hopefully. I've visited before but over twenty years ago. Once as part of an inter railing holiday staying in a hostel and watching every penny, and, on a much more luxurious holiday, when I went with a university friend whose brother was a diplomat posted to the embassy there. Staying in his city centre flat and being hosted was great. 😁 Going with DH this time and need an update on less obvious things to see. The Haus Des Meeres Acquarium sounds fun.

I second Schonbrunn palace and gardens and also the Nachtmarkte (sp?) For wandering round interesting stalls and great street food. Stephensdome is also well worth a visit, if you're up to it there is a very narrow enclosed spiral staircase and you can climb all the way to the top. I'd recommend café Aida (pronounced ayeeda) for coffee and cake. I loved my visit and plan to go again, enjoy!

Cafe Central
Cafe Central
Cafe Central

I had cakegasms there. Dinner is good - especially the breaded chicken with cucumber and potato salad, and the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on lemon toast is great for breakfast. Next time I go I want the big breakfast with fizz.

Did I mention Cafe Central?

The Mozart House is great, and just wandering is fab - lots to see. Thee is also a supermarket that looks like a deli but is really a shop for chocolate from all around the world. Lush.

Cafe Central...

It’s a wonderful city.

I really loved the Belvedere Palace. The grounds and statues are amazing. The art exhibition was also wonderful.
I bought the tram 3 day pass, rather than the Vienna Pass.

clary · 13/01/2020 00:04

We got a weekly transport pass but it runs Monday to Monday (we went on a Monday) so not good if you go Sat to Tues. Some kind of transport ticket is good tho, the public transport, trams and u bahn and buses is great.

Schonbrunn we loved, worth buying the extended ticket which was the longer tour of the house and also the maze which was ace, then have tea in the Gloriette cafe.

Loved kunsthistorisches Museum, amazing Greek cameo type jewels, also blue hippo, also loved the Belvedere with The Kiss and loads of great Egon Schieles.

Wiener schnitzel and chips, aldo we ate a great Vietnameses meal and had ice cream at a great place too, dd had a peach granita there she loved so much we had to go back the next day. Will try to find names.

Anyone going in the summer, I recommend a swim in a Freibad - 50m open air pool. There's one at schonbrunn 😀
