Older sister just went out in her new Chelsea girl cheesecloth shirt and lots of blue eye shadow. Off to a disco at the youth club.
Rag and bone man’s just gone past on horse drawn cart ‘any old iron’
Horsehair mattress is hot in this weather !
Tv overheating - ice cube tray out on it to cool it but wood is now warping.
Small transistor under pillow - also listening to radio Luxembourg here - not great reception.
Looking at pink paraffin heater in bedroom and can’t imagine it being cold ever again !

This thread is amazing! I feel so lucky to have been a teenager/ young adult in the 1970’s.
I would love to wear a wraparound Indian cotton maxi skirt from Chelsea Girl again but fear it might look ridiculous on a 63 year old nanny!
In 1976 I could run up a length of cotton fabric from the market into a skirt and wear it out the same night!
With the obligatory headscarf ( on head and tied under at the back of neck)

If any of you have bought platforms with cork soles, try clear nail varnish painted on the cork to stop it crumbling. It's working for me.

Wearing my headscarf and a cheesecloth shirt , strawberry mivvi and opal fruits on my mind

I’m 8 and on my way to Butlins at Skegness. I have a few famous five books with me and I’m curled up in the boot of my dads ford cortina with crisps and pop. And a stringy curlywurly.

cafenoirbiscuit · 12/01/2020 18:29

Ford cortina estate,I should say .... not in a car boot with a lid 😱😂

Wish I was as fat now as I thought I was then!

My brother's friend (who's is now our plumber) has come over and given me a purse in the shape of a cap. My brother isn't interested in his friend so we have filled an old tin bath with water and we're throwing buckets of water over each other. My mum has made ice lollies from from squash frozen in a plastic mould with little paper sticks.

LizzieVereker · 12/01/2020 19:32

I am 5, and I’d better not come with you to the shop, as when I went to Chessington Zoo (not yet World of Adventures) for my birthday, I burnt my bum on the mental slide in the playground and narrowly avoided needing a skin graft. So I’d better stay in the paddling pool in my Holly Hobbie cossie.

Could you get me a Milk Tray bar please se, and please could you be quick so it doesn’t melt - I’ve been waiting for another taste of the lime barrel for over 30 years 😊

We'd just returned to England after living overseas for several years. Our family has the ability to change the weather wherever we go, so the summer of 76 is down to us! When we'd left England and gone overseas, they had the coldest winter and the hottest summer on record.
I spent quite a bit of that summer in a cardigan, as we'd been in Australia for several years, and people thought I was mad!
