Does having your ears pierced hurt badly?!

As title!!

I'd love to have mine done but am a huge wuss. I've had tattoos and actually had a piercing when I was 18 somewhere rather delicate but am being a chicken about this!

Reassuring comments most welcome!

Nope. Quick pinching pain. Then that's it. The noise might make you jump but not the pain level.

CommunistLegoBloc · 09/01/2020 19:10

No. But have it done with a needle not a gun if you want it done properly!

GreenTulips · 09/01/2020 19:12

It’s fine. Sharp pinch and they glow for a short while.

No!
If you can stand a tattoo and an intimate piercing then ear piercing will be nothing.

My first ear piercing in the lobe were done simply by pushing the earring through having sharpened the end of the post. I hardly felt it! The ones I had dine later with a gun were the ones that hurt, but not much really.

Drabarni · 09/01/2020 19:26

No, definitely not.
I had mine done in November as hadn't worn earrings in years and they'd healed. Nothing to it, I won't have a tattoo or any other piercings.

CandaceStone · 09/01/2020 19:29

Nope! It's a quick shock, but if you're really nervous you could always use emla cream to numb it beforehand!

christmasstress · 09/01/2020 21:35

Ah love you lot!!

I'd already thought I'd got to a good piercer to have them done with a needle.

I did have them done at age 12 in Claire's - they got infected and I let them close up. Has the aftercare stayed the same?! It was turning them twice a day with solution.

HelloDulling · 09/01/2020 21:37

It’s hurts at the time, but not for long afterwards.

No to turning them, just bathing with salty water.

SimonJT · 09/01/2020 21:37

No, I didn’t really feel anything.

amusedbush · 09/01/2020 21:39

Yes, avoid piercing guns at all costs. Ear piercings with a needle are a doddle, just leave the jewellery alone and wash gently with boiled, salty water.

christmasstress · 09/01/2020 21:41

Ohhhhhh. I might have to get brave and have it done!!!

I had my original ear piercing done with the gun 40 years ago, a sharp pain that lasted maybe 3 seconds then my lobes felt a bit warm, that is all. I have 2 more diy sets, they hurt less, I did one set sat in a lesson at school. I'm wanting a single piercing in the top of my ear, I haven't plucked up courage yet, this is from someone who has had full blown labour & a tattoo.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 09/01/2020 21:56

My first ear hurt so much, I nearly didn't get the second one done. My two tattoos were a breeze in comparison. If my ear holes ever close up, they are staying that way!

I wonder if it depends how fleshy your ear lobes are. My lobes are tiny, not much flesh.

Trottersindependenttraders · 09/01/2020 22:07

I don’t remember mine hurting too much at the time, it was more the thought of it that worried me! That was with a gun though, these days I’d go with a needle.

Can I jump on and ask how much it hurts to get the upper ear pierced? I’ve wanted it done since my teens, but wasn’t allowed then and never got round to it when I was older. I turned 40 last year, went veggie (also not allowed as a teen) and still want my upper ear pierced. I’m not sure if this counts as a midlife crisis??

Sorry to hijack op Blush

Ninkanink · 09/01/2020 22:13

It doesn’t hurt any more to actually get the upper ear done. But cartilage takes a lot longer to heal. I couldn’t sleep on that side for ages, somewhere between six and nine months.

CustomerCervixDepartment · 09/01/2020 22:44

having my earlobes shot with the plastic (unable to be fully sterilised) gun hurt more than breaking my arm, then the wounds from the blunt force trauma got infected endlessly and still wanted to close over, decades later. I gave in. Tattoo was fine in comparison to being shot with an earring.

Whatisthisfuckery · 09/01/2020 22:56

No, but as PPs have said, get it done with a needle. Flesh piercings don’t really hurt unless you go for a sensitive area. I’ve had my lips and septum pierced as well and neither hurt. I’m a bit more of a wimp about cartilage piercings though. Not so much because of the pain, but the ridiculous amount of time they take to heal.

ChaosFromTheTopDown · 09/01/2020 23:12

I got the top of my ear done recently. Tiny bit of pain when it went in, didnt make me jump or anything.
I couldn't sleep on it for the first night and then by the second night I could sleep on it as normal. As above I bathed it twice a day in salty boiled water.
Had it done just before Christmas, can painlessly move it around in circles and can probably change the jewellery now.
The piercer advised not to get a ring in until after 6 weeks.

Get it done - you wont regret it!

june2007 · 09/01/2020 23:13

No but wearing earings always makes my ears flare up. I wore them over Christmas and they have only just got better. So not really worth it.

LemonPrism · 09/01/2020 23:13

You barely feel it, i cried so much before I had mine (I was 9) but hadn't even realised when they'd done it!

InstitutionalMadness · 09/01/2020 23:15

No, doesn’t hurt and is over in seconds.
Looking after newly pierced ears is a pain though.

Lozz22 · 09/01/2020 23:19

My ears did when they were pierced with a gun. It wasn't mega painful more of a stinging/ burning sensation. My bellybutton didn't hurt at all but that was done with a needle. Although I did actually faint after that one but that was because it bled more than it should and when I stood up and looked down bam onto floor. I really want a daith piercing done to help my migraines but I think I'm way too much of a wimpo for that!!

LemonCakeCat · 09/01/2020 23:21

I've got the top of my ear done. It did hurt but only for a few seconds and then it was done, I'm a total wuss! I might get another one!

M3lon · 10/01/2020 00:08

op you got an infection last time - I suggest you learn from that as antibiotic resistant bugs are on the rise, and you may not get so lucky this time around.

M3lon · 10/01/2020 00:10

lozz22 don't bother - there's no medical evidence that daith piercing has an effect on migranes.
