How does your town tackle crime?

The community I live in used to be really chilled with an average amount of crime like break ins/fights etc but recently a lot of us have noticed there seems to be a lot more of it going on.

I know the lack of police on the street doesn’t help, along with nowhere for the teens to go doesn’t help.

Ignore it - North London.

BloodyCats · 09/01/2020 07:55

That seems to be the same tactic here.
The local Facebook page is full of reports of various crimes etc but that’s all that gets done.

Tweet about it. That is about it.

Facebook moan.

I'm not sure if there is more crime or if we are just more aware of it. Will be interesting to see the police statistics.

BloodyCats · 09/01/2020 08:01

Herc you can check to see if there has been an increase in reported crimes here

No idea. Mostly "monitor" it. Apparently they've been watching our local drug dealers for four years as they want to get people higher up the chain. IMHO after four years just arrest the ones on the street.

There aren't enough police and police on the streets to deal with it. They've moved our police station out of the town centre too.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 09/01/2020 08:39

Crime in my area has shot up in the last decade....... particularly burglary and youth crime.

Drug use has also shit up, I'm seeing drug dealers everywhere. Openly buying and using in the street. I live in a small town in Cumbria, this is just not our normal.

But funding for youth services have been slashed, drug and alcohol support ditto and don't even get me started on what's been done to mental health services ..........we've had two murders in the last ten years commited by people whose parents had warned psych that their children were psychotic and unsafe (( one murdered his dad recently, one murdered his mum and sister ))

More and more we're seeing people who have mental health problems ending up in the criminal justice system. Rather than help them with their actual problems their being arrested and charged for trying to top themselves and causing inconvenience to others.

Suicide rates are through the roof. I've never seen anything like it in all my years of living here. We had two young men kill themselves over new year alone. It's a small place, just over 60000 people live here.

But thems the risks you takes when the very fabric that holds society together is snipped away. 💁🏻‍♀️

yy foaming it's a mess from the bottom up.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/01/2020 08:51

Round here there is a lot of mouth foaming about not having a police presence and the police doing nothing...

... and nobody reports break ins, van thefts etc because the police will do nothing...

... and relentless calls for vigilitanism...

... cos they don't report crimes, we don't have accurate crime stats and so don't get allocated more police presence!

I despair!
