It's My DD's 11th birthday tomorrow, and she has requested a 'Party tea' that I would have had for my 11th birthday.

So far I am doing sandwiches, party rings, sausages on sticks and a cheese and pineapple hedgehog, but I know I am forgetting loads!

Please remind me what I am missing, I would be so grateful!

INeedNewShoes · 09/01/2020 11:07

Wotsit crisps, Skips

Ham sandwiches, cheese sandwiches - both made with thinly sliced bread

Definitely jelly & icecream - I don't think I went to a party that didn't have jelly & icecream!

Cake was usually sliced and wrapped in a serviette to take home in the party bag and would arrive home a bit squashed.

Lightsabre · 09/01/2020 11:08

Tuna paste sandwiches
Angel Delight or a Birds Trifle
Tinned mixed fruit
Salt and vinegar chipsticks

Lastbustowhitehawk · 09/01/2020 11:12

Yes to Wagon Wheels cut into four! The most luminous fizzy pop you can find, hula hoops, iced gems and sausage rolls. Not a cherry tomato or pot of hummous in sight! Great idea, hope your DD loves it.

NannyR · 09/01/2020 11:12

Those oblong biscuits with six little blobs of pink marshmallow and sprinkled with coconut - can't think what they are called! Pink wafer biscuits, party rings (although the ones with artificial colours in were much more partyish - the new ones with natural colours are very pastel and insipid looking!)

spiderlight · 09/01/2020 11:15

Definitely fizzy pop, but not the real branded stuff - if such things still exist, it has to be Corona or Rola Cola like the Pop Man used to bring on a Friday Grin

yoohooitsme · 09/01/2020 11:17

Yes Angel Delight!

HowlsMovingBungalow · 09/01/2020 11:18

Birds trifle
Those tiny pizzas cut into quarters
Marshmallow biscuits
Pink wafers
Iced gems

NannyR · 09/01/2020 11:25

Jam mallows! I've not seen them for years.

Tartyflette · 09/01/2020 11:29

If it's 80s party food and not 80s food in general then the cubed cheese/pineapple/white pickled onions on sticks, to make a hedgehog on half a cabbage or similar. Make it as big as possible!
Also triangles of triple-decker sandwiches pinned together with larger cocktail sticks, the kind that have little flags on the top. (Warn the kids to remove the sticks before eating! )
Soft Pâté or cheese spread on Ritz crackers.
A 'sophisticated' cake or dessert might go down well with today's 11 year olds. I used to make chocolate orange mousse in little pots, or glasses, served with langue de chat or almond biscuits. Or a stripey 3-chocolate terrine. (Bit of a faff but stripey terrines were 'in'. This was the start of nouvelle cuisine, after all 😆)
