It's My DD's 11th birthday tomorrow, and she has requested a 'Party tea' that I would have had for my 11th birthday.

So far I am doing sandwiches, party rings, sausages on sticks and a cheese and pineapple hedgehog, but I know I am forgetting loads!

Please remind me what I am missing, I would be so grateful!

Yes to vol-au-vents, crudites (celery and carrot), anything small for nouvelle cuisine surrounded with a 'jus'.

Cheesecake or black forest gateau

BlackeyedSusan · 09/01/2020 11:40

Skips and fondant fancies.

silenceofthemams · 09/01/2020 11:50

Has to be a cake in the shape of the numbers of your age. Sponge with jam and buttercream and toasted almonds on the sides. Yummy!

A big bowl of skips.
Sandwich triangles - jam, cheese, ham, egg.
Then watch ET with an ice cream wafer each and the curtains closed.

Well that was my 11th birthday party anyhow!
🤣🤣🤣

silenceofthemams · 09/01/2020 11:52

Oh god YY to the fondant fancies, and possibly jam tarts. Raid the Mr Kipling's aisle!!!

PlanDeRaccordement · 09/01/2020 11:52

Monster Munch!
Bowls and bowls of it.

Cantstopeatingchocolate · 09/01/2020 12:04

Marshmallow top hats
I loved these as a kid
Also mars bar crispie cake
Or homemade tablet

TroysMammy · 09/01/2020 12:08

French Fancies and all the above.

TheMemoryLingers · 09/01/2020 12:11

Jelly diamonds on your cake are an 80s must!

neomneomneom · 09/01/2020 12:18

Probably a bit late now but traffic light jelly - lime, orange and strawberry in layers. Preferably in a small ruffled paper dish 😊

x2boys · 09/01/2020 12:51

And small plastic cups of very weak orange squash ,preferably Asda,s own.

wowfudge · 09/01/2020 12:55

Pretty much everything suggested would work for a 1970s party too. Philadelphia sandwiches were always a party treat!

listsandbudgets · 09/01/2020 13:05

Nothing ot add but what a great thread.

Could make a great theme for the back in time seiries - "back in time for the party"

I hope your dd enjoys her birthday OP.... as for me off to make jelly and for the DCs tonight - think there is some icecream in the freezer :)

TroysMammy · 09/01/2020 21:01

Silver balls.

AndromedaPerseus · 09/01/2020 21:20

Beef paste sandwiches
Spicy Nik Naks
Sunny D
Homemade novelty shaped caked coated and filled with buttercream

BeardofZeus · 09/01/2020 21:38

Not wanting to derail the thread but can anybody suggest what a 90s (1999) birthday party would have been? This thread has inspired me for catering my birthday party this year based on my pre-teen year old self but I genuinely cannot think of any obvious foods!

Kernowgal · 09/01/2020 21:39

Ahh this has been a lovely trip down memory lane!

StormOfSekhmet · 09/01/2020 21:49

Viennetta? Maybe someone already mentioned it?

olivertwistwantsmore · 09/01/2020 22:08

Meringues
Cocktail sausages
Cheese and pineapple on sticks
Iced gems

olivertwistwantsmore · 09/01/2020 22:09

And top hats!

marthastew · 09/01/2020 22:12

Yes to Vienetta.

And Panda Pops.

icanhearapindrop · 09/01/2020 22:13

Ooh, I thought Vienetta! And Sarah Lee chocolate gateaux.

icanhearapindrop · 09/01/2020 22:14

Oh yes, absolutely Panda Pops! Love this thread!

crankysaurus · 09/01/2020 22:18

Definitely vol au vents and vienetta!

crankysaurus · 09/01/2020 22:18

You should treat yourself to a Babysham too, or a tin of shandy.

crankysaurus · 09/01/2020 22:19

If you're being cruel you could try to recreate Wimpy burgers.
