I didn't know Tesco's do the same day delivery I use a delivery saver on a regular basis but watching this thread with interest now

CactusAndCacti · 09/01/2020 07:46

I presume this is the same as Sainsbury's. You book in the morning and have it delivered in the evening, it is exactly the same as a normal shop but you are just booking on the day and have to have what slots are left.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 09/01/2020 07:48

Ive had a delivery saver of various sorts for years, i know tesco aren't the cheapest. But recently its become impossible to get next day or even next 2 days slots. Its a real pain. The one day delivery has come down a bit so i was wondering.

@CactusAndCacti

Yes thats the way it works. Im wondering about availability of time slots. Anything past 9 really doesnt work for me

I have just checked my Sainsbury's and I can choose a slot between 5.30 and 8.30pm tonight. I have done it occasionally.

AltheaVestr1t · 09/01/2020 07:50

Right now, I’m my area, the earliest slot available is 7-8pm.

AltheaVestr1t · 09/01/2020 07:51

That’s Tesco.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 09/01/2020 07:53

@AlCalavicci do you have to have the on day tto see those slots?

I didn't know this was a thing!! Just checked and Tesco have slots for this evening. I've never noticed that as an option before

CactusAndCacti · 09/01/2020 07:57

I have a anytime pass for Sainsbury's so I am not sure if the cost is effected.

I can struggle as well to get a slot the next day.

Reluctantbettlynch · 09/01/2020 10:07

I've given up delivery saver with Tesco. Availability is terrible now, I usually have to wait 3 days. I have never seen same day actually available which put me off renewing. Same day would be brilliant occasionally, next day very useful, when you get to 3+ days it just feels pointless. Click & collect is ok when DH can pick it up on way home.

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 09/01/2020 11:09

I booked a slot at 10am today for tomorrow night between 9 and 10pm. That was the earliest one. So annoying! I've never managed to get a same day slot.

fedup21 · 09/01/2020 11:11

How much does this cost? Is it a subscription thing you have to pay extra for?

FourDecades · 09/01/2020 11:19

I have midweek delivery and book a week in advance when l get my work shifts.

Is there any reason that you can't book your slot the previous week?

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 09/01/2020 11:22

I shop weekly so it’s easy for me to book a week/several days in advance. I can usually get a next day slot though.
I didn’t realise about the same day slots either! Just checked and availability for today is between 8-11pm.

Ok so from peoples replies im guessing if i can't see slots there wouldn't be slots anyway....

I had tried booking a slot ahead but it didn't work terribly well. Theres only me and two teens (on free school meals). We dont necessarily eat enough for a regular weekly slot so i was finding i was picking up bread and milk local but forgetting to cancel the big order. Sad

Conversely both DC have medical needs that might mean they're suddenly home for a few days (or the rest of the week) so i more food which could prompt an order. if the youngest is ill he cant be left and will struggle leaving the house. If im ill neither DC can lift anything heavy. Having food come to me is very useful, i just wont get 3 days notice...

Tesco deliverys has been a godsend in the past but i think its just not flexible enough for me currently.

Totally understand your problem.

Is it more cost effective to have an "any day delivery" Vs "on day" Vs "pay as you go" ?

For me, paying £3.49/mth but not always needing one every week, would still be cheaper then doing a "pay as you go"

safariboot · 09/01/2020 15:40

I too have found a decline in availability from Tesco since I reckon the middle of last year. If I shop in the evening as I normally do, it's now not uncommon for the next day to be fully taken. So unless they're reserving additional slots for same-day deliveries I doubt I'd even get one when I needed it.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 09/01/2020 16:56

Oh im a doofus. Ive been with Tesco so long i hadn't thought to check any if the other supermarkets! I'll miss the Clubcard points but i have a tesco cc now so ill still get some... i like Morrisons fruit and veg... they seem to have a few next day slots

Yeah thats what i like too. Putting an order in evening for the next day. Used to do that with Tesco

There must be a variation in areas. Just checked Tesco app and theres slots available every day on mine. I must admit I've never had a problem getting one.

Is it the £7.99 pass you've got?

IloveJudgeJudy · 09/01/2020 21:11

It definitely depends where you live. I'm in the southeast and my shopping is picked from a fulfilment centre, not an actual shop, and there are always loads of slots.

When DS1 lived in Coventry there weren't anywhere near the number of slots so I had to book a few days in advance.

DS2 now lives in Wales and needs to give a week's notice to get a specific sort of time and day and even then it has to be with a few hours' flexibility.

Where I am there's still one slot available for tomorrow, a few for Saturday and Sunday I could have my pick.

AlCalavicci · 11/01/2020 06:10

I have just booked a slot for 7-8 pm today ( order placed at 5.45 am ) there were still a few slots left but not many , I have a any day delivery saver plan .

JoeGargery · 11/01/2020 06:16

If you are on a delivery plan you can get same day (if available) for something like a £2 extra charge. So if you can’t see the slots, I’m pretty sure they don’t exist.
