It's my DS6 birthday v soon. And I'm totally stuck as to what to get him as he just got a load of stuff for Christmas! His favourite Xmas presents were a Numberblocks magazine bought at an extortionate price on eBay, a Paw Patrol plane, a Ghostbusters Playmobil car, and an Orchard Maths game. And a cuddly hippo he got in his stocking! Please can you tell me what were the big hits for your kids at Christmas to give me some ideas? Preferably boys aged around 5-8.

DecemberSnow · 08/01/2020 00:13

Whats in the box

notanotherjigsawpiece · 08/01/2020 04:51

At that age, without a doubt, DS’s favourite toy was Magnatiles. They were expensive but played with daily for several years.

SallyWD · 08/01/2020 06:18

My son is 6. He has loved Flipside, Rocket twist (this is really good - has lots of games and activities), Labyrinth board game (the whole family are enjoying this) and Gravitrax (Google it if you're not sure what it is). I'm really pleased with the presents we got him this year. They all seem to be hits and for once I don't feel like I've wasted money on something he'll only play with for 5 minutes.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/01/2020 06:33

His Nintendo Switch and a dinosaur that breathes smoke when you pour water in the top of its head.

AuntieMaggie · 08/01/2020 06:37

Ds is the same age - paw patrol mighty pups tower (but it's big) and the leapfrog interactive globe which he loves quizzing us about the facts he's learning

BabloHoney · 08/01/2020 06:46

Where’s Wally books are a big hit with my 5 year old

ilovespinach · 08/01/2020 06:54

Set of Usbourne How To Draw books and a sketch pad.

CatyaPurella · 08/01/2020 06:59

Nintendo switch for sure. We had a lot of fun with a science 'rainbow' lab at the weekend

SnugglySnerd · 08/01/2020 07:00

There are so many good ideas here I'm making notes for Christmas!

MinkowskisButterfly · 08/01/2020 07:36

Surprisingly colouring books and felt tips. It really is the thing she has played with since christmas, pretty much all day every day (she got quite a few!). We thought she would play with some.of the other toys she got (vtech challenger laptop, playmobil etc), she did play a little bit with the barbies but the colouring books and sticker books were the winners hands down. She is 4.

Lipperfromchipper · 08/01/2020 07:39

Both mine ds4 and dd6 love Lego, favourites this year are a crayola LED tracing pad and a remote control digger.

Jemimapuddleduk · 08/01/2020 07:45

Playmobil Noah’s ark, hot wheel cars and garage, top trumps, massive rainbow slinky that go’s down the stairs- hours of giggles with that one!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 08/01/2020 08:00

For my 5 five year old - a book entitled "Where's the poo?". Like Where's Wally but with poo.
Close behind are a Galt branded kitchen lab (you can power a clock from an apple and his tiny mind was blown) and a massive Lego police station.

Phoebebuffay13 · 08/01/2020 08:21

@Nottalotta I ordered it from studio.com i think it was £4.99! I'm sure you can get it on eBay too, he loves it!

Pilot12 · 08/01/2020 08:34

My four year old son's favourite gift was his Leapfrog Rockit Twist (for age 4-10 years).

Topbird29 · 08/01/2020 14:46

My ds is 7 1/2 and has loved lego, reading books and k nex. He's about right age for nerf guns now and used to love playmobil, but moving away from that now. However our 5 1/2 year old asked for playmobil mission to Mars and loves it. Also likes his dinosaur fingerling. Think his birthday will include lego. They both also love transformers, top trumps and the super hero mash up toys where you can change arms/bodies/legs etc

Topbird29 · 08/01/2020 14:46

And remote controlled cars 😊

Didkdt · 08/01/2020 14:55

Instax mini camera and a space hopper
Dobble is a firm favourite
My son at 6 built the space shuttle lego and loved it
He got a drum kit and loved that
Bike?
Stunt scooter

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 08/01/2020 15:07

My 6 and 9 year olds got a BeyBlade arena and some BeyBlades (battle spinning tops) - they played with it solidly for the Christmas week (made one hell of a racket), and it's come out each weekend since too.

I thought it was bloody expensive for what it was, but it turns out that based on length of play it's really not bad at all.

happypotamus · 08/01/2020 16:37

I asked DD2 who is 5 and was sitting next to most of her Christmas presents (where on earth do all these things live?!?!). She said the Little LIve pets ladybird, but that wasn't really a Christmas present, it was an extra thing my mum had given her and she only said that because she had just opened it.
She liked Dobble. She quite likes her older sister's Labyrinth game (which I bought for nostalgia because I remember playing it as a child) and she almost chose the Junior version to buy with her Christmas money. She already had Junior Monopoly and Guess Who and some Orchard Toys games that she loves too. She has also enjoyed Lego. She eventually chose more Lego with the £20 my grandma sent her. Her favourite stocking filler type thing was probably scented pencils and anything craft/ art related. Oh, and on Christmas Day just after opening the presents my sister asked her what her favourite present had been and she said the hot chocolate kit (hot choc powder, mug, marshmallows) I had picked up for a couple of quid in B&M, and not mentioned the Nintendo Switch she had got as a joint present with DC1, so sometimes it is the small things that are best.
