What was your kid's most played with Xmas present?

It's my DS6 birthday v soon. And I'm totally stuck as to what to get him as he just got a load of stuff for Christmas! His favourite Xmas presents were a Numberblocks magazine bought at an extortionate price on eBay, a Paw Patrol plane, a Ghostbusters Playmobil car, and an Orchard Maths game. And a cuddly hippo he got in his stocking! Please can you tell me what were the big hits for your kids at Christmas to give me some ideas? Preferably boys aged around 5-8.

Harry Potter dobble and a marauders map with invisible ink!
That, Lego and nerf everything.

A "tickling stick". Literally a stick with some feathers on. (5 year-old DD)

Lego and Magformers are also getting played with a lot.

Enidcat5 · 07/01/2020 20:58

Melissa and doug ice cream parlour set, container with magnifying glass at top for looking at bugs (we caught a spider today in the house, had a good look at it with microscope then released it outside) and a Brio collapsing bridge for his train set.

Not very helpful as my DS is only 5 months but his favourite thing to play with Christmas Day was....... a cork Stormtrooper coaster Grin

BlazeM · 07/01/2020 21:11

Transformers megabots
The playskool ones are much preferred to any others as they are easy to transform, my ds has about 10 of them and plays with them all the time.

My DD loves her Hungry Hungry Hippos game & all of her LOL Dolls.. a few days after Christmas I ordered her some secondhand Disney Magiclip dolls which she has barely put down!

Her birthday is next month, she’s getting a dolls house & a party. We definitely do not need anymore toys!

Bop-it.

My son was 7 in December and he loves Imaginext things so he got lots of that and he loves it.
Also he seems to love his stretch Joker toy as well

LtGreggs · 07/01/2020 21:24

I second Guinness World Record books.

When my two were about 7 or 8 they got a couple of books "100 things to know about science" and "100 things to know about space" - they are now 11 & 13 yrs and are STILL reading these and keep them at their bedsides.

A good bouncy ball is always a favourite present here too. Ditto a box of maltesers.

Peabody25 · 07/01/2020 21:24

Aside from more switch games, he loved the Melissa and Doug spy kit, labyrinth board game, dinkee linkee for kids, Pictionary, beast quest books, boxer the robot, remote control car, draw your own comic book, colouring pad and felt tips including glitter ones, gravity ball, iron man Lego and some Pokemon battle figures.

Santasy · 07/01/2020 21:25

Harry Potter light up wand. Popular with all ages and handy too.

Muddlingalongalone · 07/01/2020 21:26

Remote controlled helicopter loved by both dd2 - recipient aged 5 & dd1 aged nearly 9.
Surprising hit was mermaid island a tip from mn from a company called peaceable kingdom - collaborative game so everyone wins or loses. but they still manage to squabble about tactics am sure if mermaids aren't your ds's thing they have others.

LtGreggs · 07/01/2020 21:26

Oh yes - stomp rockets have had hours and hours of play since about age 5

DD6 loved her Explorers kit and jacket. Also her dinosaur excavation kit.
DD8 has played Harry Potter Cluedo many times, and liked her Hermione figurine.

Their new school bags and lunch boxes caused great excitement as well (dinosaur and Harry Potter)
