Need a fool proof method. I can not cook rice no matter how hard I try, it's ridiculous. Someone please tell me the secret.

@FreckledLeopard spot on 👌 my ex DMIL taught me the same. Fool proof.

DH refuses to follow my clear and simple instructions though and gets himself in a tizzy EVERY TIME.

This sort of thing OP

You can just forget about it, no need to faff. I'd say less good with v small portions though (single kid size etc)

Second freckled leopards approach above. Perfect every time.

Splash of oil in pan. Allow 60g per person. Use pyrex jug for measuring. Add rice. Double the amount of water in pan.
Bring to boil, turn down heat to simmer. Do not stir AT ALL. Lid. 15 mins. It's done when it has 'dimples' in it.

2 parts water to rice, by volume. Boil the water, chuck the rice in, pinch of salt, lid firmly on.

Boil for 7 minutes or until there is no visible water & steam holes appear. Don't wander off at just before this point or you will burn it, ruining the rice & possibly also your pan.

Once you see the 'steam holes', take off heat. DO wander off at this point, with a gin & tonic. By the time you've drunk the gin, the rice will have finished cooking in its own steam & be perfect.

I've got a rice cooker now, which is convenient as it keeps it hot so you can crack on early, & it's idiot proof, but I actually don't think the rice is as light & fluffy done in it Hmm.

I always wash rice to get rid of the starch but I do it half way through the cooking process.
And I always use Easy Cook Long Grain.
So ....
Put dry rice in pan and add boiling water from kettle. Enough to cover rice by an inch.
Stir.
Gently boil for 5 minutes.
Pour rice and water into a sieve and wash rice under the tap with clean hot water.
Put rice back in the pan and add boiling water from kettle. An inch over rice.
Stir.
Gently boil until cooked (don't overcook or it will be sticky and clumpy)
Drain off excess water.
Eat Grin

Don't leave pan unattended, and test rice often to see if it's cooked.
