What I eat in a day *toddler edition!

jomaIone · 07/01/2020 12:27

I'm a bit stuck in a rut about what to feed my not particularly fussy 21 month old who is an exceptionally slow eater and more of a grazer. Although will polish off a full evening meal if in the mood/it's her favourite! So indulge me, what are your toddler's eating today?

Mine

Breakfast
Banana
Seeded toast, butter & honey

Lunch
Cheese on toast (this is what she has nearly every day, as it's quick and reliable!)
Cherry tomatoes
Apple
Mini cheddars

Snack will be 1 pancake with peanut butter, maybe a few raisins, and blueberries

Tea will be homemade fish pie, peas and sweetcorn.

My toddler eats gingerbread men
Yesterday had 3 packets that was all

nohelpnorest · 07/01/2020 12:33

I must add I did offer other food !

ItchySeveredFoot · 07/01/2020 12:35

Yesterday my 3yo had
Breakfast:
Multi grain shapes cereal
Apple for snack
Lunch:
Bacon and spinach pasta with tomatoes
Banana for snack
Dinner:
Pizza, spinach, peas and sweetcorn
Not the healthiest day ever. She doesn't like egg and is allergic to nuts. She also refuses to eat sandwiches but will eat toast

He's nearly 4 so not really a toddler but -

Breakfast:
bowl of porrodge with some brown sugar on top

Just Now:
Tangerine

Lunch in about 10 mins:
scrambled egg
green beans
plain bagel as he doesn't like butter

This afternoon we have friends visiting mid afternoon so he will have squash and biscuits/crisps etc while we have tea and cake.

Dinner: No idea yet, probably something easy like pesto and cream cheese pasta followed by fruit salad.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 07/01/2020 12:36

My two year old and three year old eat about the same:

Breakfast

  • Weetabix or Cheerios (one biscuit/one full bowl)

Lunch

  • pizza slices with pizza made with a tortilla, tomato passata, and mozzarella
  • Tea

Lasagne with sliced cucumber and carrot

Snacks:

0930 Half a sweet waffle and half a banana

1430: Rice cake and tangerine

Peanutbutteryogurt · 07/01/2020 12:37

17 month old DD, not particularly fussy but not an amazing eater either -

B: chopped up fruit and Greek yogurt and toast with peanut butter or porridge with fruit

L: scrambled egg with very finely chopped spinach (only recently discovered she'd eat this so very exciting!), beans on toast, cheese sandwich, or leftovers from dinner the night before. Grated cheese with pretty much every lunch!

D: some days she eats at nursery but I still offer her what we have when she gets home. The usual pasta, meat/fish with potatoes, fajitas. Just normal family meals. Tonight is a creamy masala chicken curry with rice and naan bread.

My new years resolution is to really focus on upping our veg intake and nutrition. Swapping normal potatoes with sweet potato, finely chopping spinach and adding it to everything, I made a broccoli and apple puree which I stir in to her yogurt, blend up veg and mix it into Bolognese. Stuff like that.

Peanutbutteryogurt · 07/01/2020 12:40

Forgot to add she doesn't really snack except for when she rummages in the cupboard to find those organix crisp things. She still has a bottle at nap time and one in the late afternoon. We don't eat breakfast till half 8 or 9 so not much time in the day for snacks.

Mylittlepony374 · 07/01/2020 12:50

@nohelpnorest I have one of those. Yesterday she ate a dry cracker, a rice cake, and a chuppa chup lolly pop.
I offered porridge, fruit smoothie, curry chicken &rice, cheese sandwiches, chicken, spaghetti, kiwifruit, yoghurts, brown bread, banana, weetabix, etc etc.
Where do you get one of these that eats grapes & cucumber and fish pie ????

DelurkingAJ · 07/01/2020 12:51

Nearly 4 year old DS2

Breakfast
Half a chocolate brioche, maybe
2 sippy cups of milk

(At the weekend he eats vast amounts but at 9:30 or so, which we can’t do and get everyone to work and childminder)

Lunch
Small wrap
Cheese or ham
Handful of cherry tomatoes
Handful of blueberries

Snack
Biscuit

Supper
Chicken pasta with veg (hurray for the childminder)

Snack
Banana and squash

I should add that he either eats everything in sight or pushes it around his plate. It’s not what he’s offered, just whether he’s hungry. I try to remember to think about what he eats in a week and not fret.

DelurkingAJ · 07/01/2020 12:54

Peer pressure is amazing for getting them to eat.

DS2 is old enough now for the following conversation.

Me: do you eat this at childminder’s?
DS2: yes
Me: so why won’t you eat it with Mummy and Daddy
DS2: don’t want to
Me: but you like it at childminder’s
SD2: yes, but I don’t like it with you
Me: argh!

Usual outcome is no pudding or snacks and if he’s hungry later I will reheat or offer fruit or veg depending.

vampirethriller · 07/01/2020 12:56

polkadotpixie · 07/01/2020 13:01

@nohelpnorest @Mylittlepony374 I have the same type of toddler as you both. My 16 month old barely eats anything at all. I don't know how he has the energy to survive let alone be the relentless climbing monster he is!

I've tried every food I can think of but it all just gets thrown on the floor 😩

I want one of these magical toddlers that actually eat!

jomaIone · 07/01/2020 13:03

I am so jealous of all these toddlers who will eat eggs! I cannot get mine to eat them. She has tried in all forms and does not like them. Would be such a great easy meal!

Do you cook a meal for lunch if they're having hot food? I can't find the time to cook for lunchtime, so she ends up having toast and cheese or a picky plate. She's not a sandwich or bread fan really.

MarshaBradyo · 07/01/2020 13:06

I do a mix and cook something like fish or vegetable in oven so it doesn’t take long

I always keep leftovers from night before too and just heat up

babasaclover · 07/01/2020 13:12

Lunch - toast with peanut butter, some BBQ flavour roast split pea snack things, a few grapes

Tea - Roast sausage (a few bites), roast carrot (about a carrot and a half), roast cauliflower and roast tomatoes were rejected.

CoodleMoodle · 07/01/2020 13:26

My 18mo eats everything! (Complete change from his almost 6yo sister who self restricts food.)

Today for DS:
Milk when he woke up

Breakfast - Cheerios with whole milk, small yoghurt (plain with fruit puree mixed in).

Snack - Apple and a couple of cheese biscuits at toddler group.

Dinner - Pesto pasta in the car (DD has Rainbows this evening), yoghurt, fruit.

Milk before bed.
