Puzzle mats

I've been thinking of buying one of these and research tells me that many come with an inflatable tube, some come with cardboard tubes and some come without any tube at all.

Do any of these actually work? Is black the best colour, (as some of the product descriptions state)? It seems simple but I don't want to waste money.

I haven't got a roll one, I always wonder if it would break up.

I have had, for many years, a Falcon Portauzzle, which I slide under my sofa when not in use.

It doesn't seem available any more, but this is what is quite similar.

I have a roll up one, and does work until the DCs tread on it. It was £1 in a charity shop.

I have an inflatable one and it’s fine. Better than the solid cardboard tube I had before. I also have a flat case with a board which is the best (possibly the one mentioned above).

I should say I prefer the board because the felt roll-up style is hard to move pieces around, they don’t slide easily.

I went with a felt roll up with inflatable roll, from Amazon. Thanks everyone for your replies.

@CactusAndCacti, that type of mat looks very useful. I googled for a Canadian supplier and found some that were over $100 (CDN $).
