Screen Time

Proper minefield around how much screentime kids should have. DD11 has 2 hours laptop/tablet time but we are struggling since she had her phone as she’s on it a lot. What’s average for her age?

DS1 (7, so a fair bit younger) gets 30ish minutes on a school night. More like an hour at the weekend (or plays with DH and I have to extract them both).

I thought this would be a really popular thread but maybe it’s tea/bath/bed etc

Mine can watch tv and an hour on phones if they’ve done all their homework. No gaming at all during the weekdays.
That works for us. They’re used to it, there are no arguments about it and they’re generally in a good mood.
Its A lot different when they have more time.

My daughter (12) has her phone an hour a night after she’s done all her home work in the week. (She has it at school and in the morning but little time to really be in it then). I’ve just implemented no devices upstairs rule. They only game at the weekend for an hour a day, sometimes works out more if friends come over but try to limit it to no more that 2. Phone she can have for 2 hours each day on the weekend but usually she’s just listening to music on it.

I think DD doesn’t see the phone as screen time. It’s difficult because she has it to text/Watsapp her friends but she tends to go on tiktok etc & would spend hours if we let her. I think it can get silly on top of the 2 hours she already has. I will chat to other Mums with Year 6 kids & see what time they allow
