Would you go wild camping on your own?

Just wondered if many women have done solo wild camping?

Not after watching Wolf Creek Grin

Have none of you wild camping fans heard of the Dyatlov Pass incident? Confused

And yes I'm probably more likely to come to harm after a skinful in my local town, but at least I'd have had a good time beforehand rather than spend my final hours smashing tent pegs into the dirt and shitting in a bag.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 06/01/2020 22:48

I would with my dog yes. Not without him.

I wouldn't be that keen as I could be a target for cows/other types of violence and I spooked on my own in remote places. I'd happily go camping in a remote campsite on my own and plan a Scotland trip this year.

AhoyMrBeaver · 06/01/2020 22:53

No, I get a bit uncomfortable when I'm not close to people (not necessarily in the same building, but in the vicinity). I like being alone, but I don't like being isolated. Plus I'd really hate camping, but that's by the by.

superfandango · 06/01/2020 22:55

I love the idea but in reality, I’d be worried that every noise outside the tent is something/someone coming to kill me.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 06/01/2020 22:56

I wouldn’t choose to because I just don’t think I would feel relaxed. I would definitely feel on edge and be listening for every sound. If I had to I’d probably do it if I could take my dog.

katewhinesalot · 06/01/2020 22:59

I'd happily do it in a campsite but I'd be too scared out in the wilds.

Are there actually many places to safely wild camp in England? It's too populated. I'd be less scared in remote parts of Scotland I suppose.

Unescorted · 06/01/2020 23:02

Oh yes..... no washing up, no mithering. I can ride/ run/ walk out for an hour and set up camp for the night. I carry a filled hot water bottle, come down the hill for breakfast & am still at my desk for work.

Barryisland · 06/01/2020 23:04

I think you are more likely to get attacked in a city centre than remote camping.

Miljea · 06/01/2020 23:05

Unescorted how do your coworkers react when you start skinning your rabbit for breakfast? 😂

Miljea · 06/01/2020 23:06

Dyatlov- reckon they stumbled upon a secret Soviet military area....

ineedaholidaynow · 06/01/2020 23:08

DS and DH did wild camping on Dartmoor once and woke up to cows investigating their tent

Unescorted · 06/01/2020 23:09

Miljea they are too self absorbed.to notice. or I call at my house throw the camping gear in the kitchen, have a bath and pick up a croissant on my way in

puppymouse · 06/01/2020 23:09

Having driven down from Skye to the Trossachs today I think I can safely say that while it sounds amazing I just couldn't do it. I was so intimidated by some of the landscape and just felt so overwhelmed. Especially at night or semi-darkness you could sense the presence of the mountains and hills around you and how small you were.

Not that one would have to wild camp somewhere quite so wild as that. But everything scares me more in the dark so generally too wussy.

I have come across the lady who runs this business in the course of my work which seems relevant to this thread for those who'd rather do similar in a group. She's lovely and a colleague has been on one of her adventures and loved it.

managedmis · 06/01/2020 23:24

No mithering sounds like bliss actually

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 06/01/2020 23:26

I haven't done, but I would, it sounds ace!

Crocwearer · 06/01/2020 23:43

Yes did it a few times when I was younger abroad and now I do it regularly in the Highlands.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 07/01/2020 07:53

That is precisely one of the reasons I love it Grin

No people for miles and miles . Loads of endorphins from the bloody hard work traipsing up and down mountains that day. Lovely peaceful dark to sleep in - unless the sky is clear and you stay up for ages goggling at how many trillions of sparkly stars there are.

helpfulperson · 07/01/2020 08:06

Yes absolutely. Chances of you meeting anyone never mind anyone with ill intent who has walked that far on the off chance of finding a victim is miniscule.

I carry an emergency beacon that at the press of a button alerts the emergency services to my location and my needing help.

MarshaBradyo · 07/01/2020 08:09

No
I can see why others would but no

BlouseAndSkirt · 07/01/2020 08:14

Yes, but it is the carrying of ‘stuff’, water, food, tent etc, that would put me off.

I have camped solo in the ‘wild style’ campsites where you get your own woodland glade or similar. Bliss.

BlouseAndSkirt · 07/01/2020 08:16

So, are you thinking of doing this, or are you a maniac psychopath trying to find out where lone women hang out in the wilderness?
