3 year old bed bound for 3 weeks. Coping tips.

My 3 year old has fractured his femur. He is in traction for 3 weeks. How he is going to cope with having to stay in bed for 3 weeks is beyond me. He is so active and has heaps of energy. I know the hospital will have activities etc planned but they're not going to be on all the time.

Weve tried to explain it to him as best we can but he isn't able to understand what he is in for.

Any hints or tips for coping with this? For him or us!

Is he totally bed bound? Could you use a pushchair or wheelchair to pop out for walks

Oh no the poor thing. My 3 year old would be going crazy so I understand what you mean!

How about a getting a box and decorating it and then every day putting a new toy or activity inside? You need to build the excitement of what’s going to be inside and then put things like playdoh or action figure toys that he can play with in bed.

I’m thinking if this was my three year old I would be very dependent on giving them the iPad!!!

Crafting stuff that can be done in bed maybe? Play doh on the little bed tray if they still have those?

Threading beads?

Stickle bricks and construction stuff like that?

Duplo?

Oh poor thing and poor you op! I have a very energetic 5 year old and can't imagine trying to keep her occupied...we struggled on a half hour flight when she was 3!
My only suggestion would be something like a huge crafting box, lots of Lego, books and stories! Audiobooks save my life on long car journeys with a very bored child.
Family board games in bed?

Decorate the bed frame with crafts
Board games
Lego
Craft
Cooking
The playworkers should help you.
Set up a rota so there's always an adult present and you all get some rest
Good luck Flowers
