8b NHS - what kind of work do they do?

Plugitinthen · 05/01/2020 19:39

Is it high up or low down?

I’ve tried googling but just get a lot of agenda for change stuff! Potential date, asked him what he did for work and he said 8b NHS?!

Bit vague and I didn’t want to push!

Weird that he'd give you his grade...

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 05/01/2020 20:13

I agreed with the pp saying it’s an odd way to describe himself. Sounds like a nob.

mayaknew · 05/01/2020 20:15

OP please come back and tell is when you find out!

Angelw · 05/01/2020 20:31

I would have pushed it, I’m a bit annoying at times🤗

Choppersicballs · 05/01/2020 20:35

I’d automatically go off him from reading these replies.

Quite arrogant sounding. If someone said those exact words to me I’d have to ask them what they actually meant by 8b. Dick.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/01/2020 20:36

It’s like a financial dick pic isn’t it?.

itsgettingweird · 05/01/2020 20:50

Surely the reply to that is "well I've met drs and nurses and HCPs and therapists. I've never met an 8b. What is that?"

Am laughing at "financial dick pic" Grin

DragonNight · 05/01/2020 20:52

What's the job title and what org? 8b is mid-management grade for NHS admin roles ie not in a hospital. It's roughly equivalent to a grade 7 in the civil service.

Plugitinthen · 05/01/2020 21:10

Financial dick pic Grin

That’s exactly what it is!!!

I’m sending that back to him

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 05/01/2020 21:12

You’re welcome 😂

CurlyhairedAssassin · 05/01/2020 21:16

Maybe he’s a psychologist and thinks you’ll be put off him because you think he’ll try to read your innermost thoughts Grin

Oh I know!! He works in gynaecology!

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 05/01/2020 21:19

Could be a Clinical Scientist, I know a few.

But yeah, that would totally put me off. You asked his what his job was, not his salary.

adviceneededon · 05/01/2020 21:22

I'm an 8b. When people ask what I do I used to say Director of Operations...and even that doesn't exactly explain what I do. So now I just say NHS senior manager. I think saying the band is just trying to impress you as it's a wide salary range.

olivehater · 05/01/2020 21:26

It’s a bit weird that he told you his pay grade instead of what he does. Smacks of showing off. But yes prob senior management level or if clinical very specialist.

nurseymummyx · 05/01/2020 21:30

I work for the NHS as a band 5, our team who run the hospital (we call them site managers) are mostly band 8's.. They are matrons/sisters/charge nurses mostly at our hospital but I think there's quite a few jobs which are paid a band 8 rate.

BelaLug0si · 05/01/2020 21:30

If you've got his full name then try looking it up in LinkedIn, will probably be on there and it'll give you his job title.

Cornettoninja · 05/01/2020 21:35

I’m going to guess a non-clinical role that irritates clinicians.

Who says their pay scale when they’re asked what they do?

mayaknew · 05/01/2020 21:35

You could also check the nmc he'll be there if he's a registered nurse.

Or just ask him.

Then tell us, obviously.

NearlyOutedMyself · 05/01/2020 21:39

Band 8 was a service manager when I worked in the NHS (I was band 4).

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 05/01/2020 21:43

Financial Dick pic is wonderful.

I used to be an 8c and it was in a management role trying to make sense of certain teaching trusts’ spiralling finances.

Anyone who describes themselves as an 8c kind of needs to get a life.

Especially if he knows you’re NHS too (are you?)

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 05/01/2020 21:43

*8b

chrissakes

twopintsprick · 05/01/2020 21:43

Very weird to just tell you his grade - I work in nhs finance and employ 8b finance business partners - he could be an accountant and just not want to say cause it's really boring
(I'm an accountant Grin)

I'd never in a million years tell people what grade I'm on (unless they specifically asked)

Plugitinthen · 05/01/2020 21:47

No I’m not nhs! It was in answer to usual “what do you do” kind of thing

“Oh NHS, 8b, been there for years”

Vague. I don’t think he’s clinical

adhdme2019 · 06/01/2020 21:12

Did you reply?

NearlyOutedMyself · 06/01/2020 23:21

Maybe he works in room 8b? Grin
