Sick, 48 hour rule and work

Got the sick bug for the second time in the space of 3 weeks. Meant to be back at work tomorrow morning, and was last sick early hours of this morning. I'm guessing I'm going to have to wait until I'm clear for 48 hours? It's a relatively new job, and having just had 2 weeks holiday, I'm worrying about how it's going to look if I ring in sick

What is your company policy, have they said that it's 48 hours? I agree it won't look great, but neither will spreading germs to everyone.

I haven't spoken to them yet but part of my job involves checking in with a number of (very) elderly residents, which is making me a bit more wary

It won't look good, but it'll look worse if you infect the whole site. Ring in and be honest, and if they get the arse you're probably in the wrong place.

For the sake of those elderly people and your work colleagues I would definitely call in sick. All you can do is explain, it's not your fault you are sick.
Hope you feel better soon.

I'd ring up and explain, show willing to want to go in but that you are conscious about giving it to the elderly

If you feel better in the morning, ring work and explain and ask what they’d like you to do. They may be able to give you alternative duties which don’t involve contact with vulnerable people.
