Paid it off at 35 but moved so now have another, will pay that off at 49

hopeishere · 04/01/2020 21:38

Not me but DH. Paid it off three years ago aged 51.

SlothRunner · 04/01/2020 21:39

34, was a 35 year term, but will be done in 13

Tequilamockinbird · 04/01/2020 21:39

I'll be 64 on current mortgage. But hoping to reduce the term when I remortgage later this year.

Glittercandle · 04/01/2020 21:41

Paid it off when we were 33/34. Took out a new mortgage 2 years later - will be paid off before 50.

EnglishRain · 04/01/2020 21:44

46 if we carry on overpaying the tiny £50 a month I add on. 48 if not.

francienolan · 04/01/2020 21:45

Just buying a home now. If we keep the same terms and same home, 59. I don't know what the future holds that far in advance though!

Rosieposy4 · 04/01/2020 21:46

60, DH 65

WildRosie · 04/01/2020 21:47

54, so just over five years from now. I've been in my present (and only, apart from family home) home for almost twenty years.

DramaAlpaca · 04/01/2020 21:49

Funnily enough, we just checked our mortgage balance online this afternoon. We are counting down to it being paid off later this year. I'll be 55.

WillingSpringTime · 04/01/2020 21:50

Paid off first at 22 due to inheritance. Have since moved house and got a huge mortgage to get what we wanted. Term is 30 years so will be paid off when I am 54 unless we make over regular payments which we are planning to do once renovations are complete, which should halve the term of the mortgage if all goes to plan!

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 04/01/2020 21:50

If we stay in this place I'll be 40. Bought the flat age 21 in 2008. would like a move though so might not achieve mortgage free by then.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 04/01/2020 21:51

I was 44.

Ursaminor · 04/01/2020 21:54

Cleared at 50.
Did it in 18 years - the length that was left on the endowment policy for my first property, when endowments were the thing (a long time ago). I acted on the red letters about the endowment policies being likely not to pay out enough to cover the mortgage and changed to a part repayment / part endowment morgage - and then ended up with £5k over, which was a nice surprise.

wejammin · 04/01/2020 21:57

Got a 35 year mortgage this year at 35 so 70.
Currently paying out £800 per month in childcare fees, hoping to overpay by at least that much when youngest DC starts school in 3 years.

FloreanFortescue · 04/01/2020 22:06

40 🤞🏻

Yellowbutterfly1 · 04/01/2020 22:08

Mine was 42

Babybel90 · 04/01/2020 22:11

52, which is the same year DD will start uni (if she goes) so will channel the money into helping her at that point if she needs it.

Littleshortcake · 04/01/2020 22:14

About 60 ish but hope to overpay and bring it down to 55. We rent out two houses so could sell them at some stage (in negative equity sadly at the moment) both bought when single and pieces inflated.

SedentaryCat · 04/01/2020 22:20

59 if we don't pay off the remainder when the fixed rate ends. We got a cracking deal a year ago which meant we could shorten the term. Mortgage is small and we'll have paid off 50% of it by the end of the fixed rate period.

TildaDoll · 04/01/2020 22:21

As it stands, 42,but I'm hoping if my plans work out it'll be easier.

We bought a small, cheap, unfancy house with things that most people find offputting, but we'll probably have to work until we drop, so the idea is that if we have a small mortgage which is paid off ASAP then when we're older and getting properly knackered, we will only have to work a few days a week to keep things ticking over. The mortgage is also small enough that if we ever wanted to temporarily move for work, the rent we could get for the house would be at least double the mortgage.

DeRigueurMortis · 04/01/2020 22:22

I was 34 when DH and I paid off the mortgage.

House bought for £525k but worth a lot more now.

TildaDoll · 04/01/2020 22:23

If my plans work out it should be earlier, that should be.

A mortgage broker is a must have, in my opinion. Ours got us nine years off our mortgage after we'd owned the house for only two. In another few years he reckons we can get another nine off

PrimalLass · 04/01/2020 22:25

59 but I hope it's paid off early.

Bellybootcut · 04/01/2020 22:29

Bought at 22. Paid off at 42. Small house, nice area. Moved once. Overpaid whenever we could which helped massively.
