What would you do if you were rich/brave/free?

New Year is a funny old time for me. It throws up a mixture of gratitude for the life I have and regrets about the life I could've had.
I have a normal and lovely life in lots of ways but if I were brave/rich/disciplined enough I would:

  1. Homeschool my children
  2. Travel for much of the year
  3. Sell our house and all our stuff. 4. Buy a motor home/ RV.
  4. Go totally vegan, plastic free, zero waste and live a life in line with my values rather than societal norms.

As in every January, I'm sat in my comfortable chair in my comfortable sitting room in my comfortable house watching my children play and watch tv in their pyjamas, pondering what could have been and if I will ever get closer to the life I really want.

What life would you lead if only you could?

I've already homeschooled, I think I'll pass.on doing it again Grin

I’d play piano more and grade to diploma, I’m stopped at grade 8. I simply don’t have the time to do it at the moment.

I would go back to playing rugby as the poor wage would no longer be a problem.

I wouldn’t do anything hugely different as a parent, I’d probably change his play therapist though.

If I was brave I’d hold my partners hand, but that depends more on other people than it does us.

Open a pay-what-you-can cafe serving all my favourite simple meals.

Animal rescue work.

Read, read, read.

Write the novel I have been thinking about.

Anonymously help people to accomplish their dreams.

PerfectPretender · 04/01/2020 10:56

Aw Simon that last sentence makes me sad.

Helocariad · 04/01/2020 10:56

Travel. Make our home as eco sustainable as possible. I'd keep on working as I love my job, but would do only 2 days a week.
Like some pps I would say no more often. Though I've started doing that already wrt Christmas jumper day etc. Very liberating 😊.

Big house new car flash holidays.
I’m shallow.

If I was rich and brave I'd campaign on an issue that needs more awareness.

Rich and brave would mean I wouldn't have to worry about my safety or that of my family.

I'd need to be billionaire rich.

IdentifyasTired · 04/01/2020 11:09

A lot of us with travelling dreams.
A fair few with homeschooling ambitions too!
Nice to see I'm not alone.

Why is homeschooling such a popular wish?

IdentifyasTired · 04/01/2020 11:16

A desire for more freedom and self determination maybe?
Those are my reasons anyway.

Would have group sex

Would move back to Africa to work with children there, as I did for the happiest year of my life.

If I was rich I would have every kind of help with everything. A nanny, a chauffeur, a chef, a gardener, a house keeper, cleaner etc. Then I would spend my time learning to dance, writing and reading novels, taking the kids in the (well maintained heated indoor) pool, and sitting on one of those big sofa swings watching the children in their tree house for hours. One day a week I would spend in a spa getting everything done so that I didn't have to worry about putting on makeup or doing my hair or anything for another week but still looked completely glamorous. My nails would be beautifully manicured but short, for the hours spent around the piano playing and singing with my kids. We would not have a TV but would play board games every evening before the nanny did the tricky bedtime stuff, and I could just breeze in and read them a quick story and give them kisses and cuddles and feel like mother of the year without ever changing another shitty nappy ever again.

VenusClapTrap · 04/01/2020 11:45

I’m rich enough; I have enough money to do what I want, really, without getting into silly territory (yachts, private jets etc) or being able to set up charities which would actually make a difference.

Brave is a funny one - not sure I have any unfulfilled ambitions that that would help with. I suppose if I was really brave I could go into politics, because there’s often more potential for changing things that way than just pouring money into causes. And god help us, we need more people getting active politically to replace the current shower. BUT I would need to be a lot more eloquent and better informed in addition to the bravery.

Discipline. Yes please. I need more of this in spades. Then I could get off this chuffing phone, get fit, and crack on with my to do list instead.

I would buy a bigger house for a start. Not huge, but we have a really tiny house at the moment which makes it difficult sometimes. I would like a bigger living room and maybe an extra entertaining space, plus another bedroom. Not much to ask!

Then, I would pay for a cleaner/housekeeper. I seem to spend so much time doing housework, and would love to not have to worry about that anymore.

I would like to just be able to go out whenever I want without worrying about how much it's going to cost. I'm at the stage right now where I even have to think about how much fuel trips are costing, so it's difficult sometimes to even have a drive somewhere. A little cash would make things much easier for me.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/01/2020 15:03

Good question.

I'd move to another country, join a singing group, an art class, a dance class and a drama group.
