His wife Gwen announced on Facebook not long ago. He'd had this flu bug going round. Whether you believed in what he did or not, he seemed a nice man and it's sad news to start the new year off to

Made me laugh how all the celebrity spirits would speak to him! Not anyone that was close to them- had to be Derek Acorah!

Crystal87 · 04/01/2020 19:44

I'm sad about it. I liked Derek. I do believe there are psychics, though I wasn't entirely convinced on him. But he seemed a good person. RIP.

I saw him a few years with mil and her brother a few years ago. The ticket was bought by mils brother for me as they wanted me to go to try and "open" my mind because I'd call it the bullshit it was.

I remember him walking around going "I've got a middle aged woman, she died before her time, something to do with the breast" and shit loads of hands went up including mils and her brothers. My mind wasn't "opened" and I became more convinced that it was cruel and exploitative. Everything he said could have applied to my aunt too.

That hope on mils face when Derek was stood at the end of our row rattling off generic shit that could apply to many families sat in that room and the the hurt when he walked elsewhere showed it for the exploitative bullshit that it is.

I'm sad for his family and loved ones, he conned grieving people though and nice men don't do that.

I hope he comes back singing 'Hello from the other side' just to make me chuckle.

TreeTopTim · 05/01/2020 08:05

I always thought that he was a fraud.

I am not 100% convinced either way about mediums and psychics. I have a family member who can feel things and dream things before they come true. This family member is very private about this and not a lot of people know.

Like a previous poster said, I was surprised to hear that he had died as I thought I had read about him dying a few years ago. Perhaps there was a hoax going around online.

Colin Fry, a similar parasite died a few years ago.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 05/01/2020 08:43

Was he the one who stated ‘Mary likes Dick’?

sashh · 05/01/2020 09:33

Yep, that's the one.

draughtycatflap · 05/01/2020 09:46

Apparently if you rearrange the letters of his name on a table in the dark then every time, without fail, it spells out ‘you gullible wankers’.

Spooky.

katmandoo · 05/01/2020 12:06

Sadly I didn't get to know him in his lifetime but I am looking forward to getting to know him now.

Jolie - his wife described him as "haunted by trolls" - a risk you take, I suppose, opening up to "the other side."

He was on our flight home from Alicante - Liverpool exactly 2 years ago. My kids were sat behind him, no idea who he was, but were highly amused by this ostentatiously dressed "old" man's behaviour. He kept standing up and looking around him throughout the flight. Perhaps he was looking for Sam? I could tell he was doing it to be noticed. At the luggage carousel on arrival he was even more desperate to be recognised. Eventually a woman approached him for a selfie. I could feel his relief! Didn't tell the kids who he was until later when I showed them "Mary loves Dick" on YouTube.
