Applying for vocational course - need work placement

I am hoping to apply for a HNC which is relevant to the work I do and hope that it will pave the way for promotion within my current role.

I have to do 225 work hours as part of the course, which I will be doing anyway as I work 24.5 hours a week.

Should I apply for the course via UCAS first and then approach my employer about it, or vice versa. The only problem I can see is that if I dont get a place I will be really embarrassed.

I would approach my employer first. You might find that they are really supportive and find benefits for the company.
