Nothing on tv....but just seen this is on. Is it worth a watch?

Cheesier than a sharing bag of wotsits

Grandmi · 02/01/2020 21:43

Too cheesy for me !!

BackforGood · 02/01/2020 21:50

So about 25 people on here hated it, but millions loved it when it was first out - all sorts of huge numbers at the cinema, people seeing it several times over, DVD sales were huge.

It is a musical. If you want a bit of 'gritty realism' it's probably not your 'thing', but if you like superb songs belted out over a predictable storyline, then go for it Smile

TFthatsover · 02/01/2020 21:55

DH and DC's love it - bores me to tears. Doesn't help that the radio stations have played the songs to death which adds to my irritation. Maybe I'm just old and grumpy.

itchity · 02/01/2020 21:57

We all LOVE it in our house. Even DH says it’s his favourite film.
It’s feel good with amazing songs.
Give it a try!

Figgygal · 02/01/2020 21:57

Total cheese but I enjoyed it

Geraniumblue · 02/01/2020 22:00

Plenty of my friends completely adored it. I watched it and seriously wondered if I was missing some important element, because I did not enjoy at all.

Fishcakey · 02/01/2020 22:03

I hated every second of it and I love musicals usually.

Amortentia · 02/01/2020 22:06

I don’t know how anyone could make it to the end of this, truly the worst film I’ve ever seen and I only watched half of it.

Crystal87 · 02/01/2020 22:06

I like the film and the songs but if I'm being honest I watch it mainly because Zac Efron is fit as fuck. Sorry.

Ohyesiam · 02/01/2020 22:22

If you go into out looking for feel good factor, and suspend your disbelief , it’s ok.

I knew a little bit of the story it’s based on, abs I don’t like truth being twisted and things being saccharine sweetened. But if you are less earnest and grumpy, go for it!

JustMyName · 02/01/2020 22:35

I loved it. It's a film, a musical, so I didn't expect it to stick to the facts, and it didn't change what I think about P.T. Barnum. It's just entertainment. I love the soundtrack and Hugh Jackman is nice to look at! I've seen it about 6 times and would happily watch it again now.

Lightsabre · 02/01/2020 23:17

Sound of Music is on as an alternative.

Littlemeadow123 · 02/01/2020 23:41

Despite all the negativity on here, it did smash several records and became one of the greatest musicals of all time - i think it is only behind the sound of music and something else.

Freddiefox · 03/01/2020 00:06

Moulin rouge all the way ... much better

Gilead · 03/01/2020 00:11

I love musicals but I hated The Greatest Showman. Honestly couldn’t see what the fuss was about.

RUSU92 · 03/01/2020 00:17

I'm not a big musical fan. We went to see it at the cinema. As we sat down DP said "as long as its not a musical I'm ok with it" then Hugh Jackman burst into song.

We walked out having absolutely loved it, he ended up playing the soundtrack in his car, I went back twice more to see it with other people and then watched it at home with DD who was also by this point obsessed!

Like others have said, no real story, nothing like the real life story of Barnum, but the songs are just sooo catchy!

And the bit where Zac Efron and Hugh Jackman are pretty much lapdancing for each other sends me into raptures.

plus I'm the most hetero woman in the world, but Zendaya, in Rewrite the Stars.... Shock

Strokethefurrywall · 03/01/2020 00:18

Fuck me, I loved this movie! Soundtrack on its own is worth the watch, so catchy.

Storyline is utter guff but who cares when you've got show tunes and Zac Efron being his bad ass self?

Songs, choreography and feel good storyline - what more could you want?!

CheesePleaseLoueese · 03/01/2020 06:51

It was just a bit.... dull. Not even noteworthy enough to hate.

Some people rave about the soundtrack but again I'm afraid I found it completely underwhelming.

mogtheexcellent · 03/01/2020 09:09

The really honest trailer version is hilarious!

I do like the film. Its over rated but tunes are catchy and its colourful. If you like jean claude van damme or scandi noir esque films then its probably not for you.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/01/2020 09:10

Watch something else,it was dire as was the music.

ManonBlackbeak · 03/01/2020 09:16

Someone must have liked it. Isn’t the soundtrack the biggest selling movie soundtrack ever, and I think it was the biggest selling album of the year?

I’ve not seen it, but thought Moulin Rogue was utter shit so that probably means going from here that I’d enjoy it,

MsJuniper · 03/01/2020 09:31

I went to see it in the cinema and hated it. Didn't get it at all. Later rewatched on dvd with DS and his cousin (5&6) and they were so into it, dancing and singing along and I saw it in a totally different light. Now I love having it on and am quite sad DS doesn't choose it more often these days!
