Disappearing messages

My daughter (11)'s iMessages were chirruping at gone 1am so I went & had a look. What I saw was inappropriate to say the least (homophobic, swearing etc) so I screenshoted them to talk to her about tomorrow. She's not the sender btw, she's a recipient. I've gone back to the chat thread on her phone just now - this is many members of her Y6 class btw - and the offending messages are no longer on the message thread. Does this mean the sender of the messages has deleted them?

Was it an iMessage on the actual messaging part of the iPhone?

Messages tend to disappear on snapchat or whatsapp but didn't think they could be deleted from iMessage

It's normal text messages (ie. not snapchat or WhatsApp).

No, if they're deleting its because dd deleted them on her phone. Sender can't delete.

What Scoffing said. It's a good thing because it shows your daughter isn't interested in that sort of talk.
