Withdrawal method day before ovulation

I know we were not being super smart... I have a 10 week old and had my period about 12 days ago. It was my first period.y DH has been extremely horny (which I don't mind) . He was definitely able to pull out on time but obviously I'm slightly worried. I have the appointment for my coil in two weeks. DH thinks I'm jealous at being super paranoid. It took us 9 months to conceive our DS.

withdrawal isn't contraception, and surprised anyone who went to school and vaguely listened doesn't know that.

then again MN isn't very good at correlation and causation.

if you don't want too very-close babies, get the MAP. And buy some condoms while you are in the chemist.

RhymingRabbit3 · 01/01/2020 19:58

Are you also "horny" because, if not, you can say no. And I would definitely say no to unprotected sex - which withdrawal is.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 01/01/2020 19:58

I never get this. Unless you wouldn’t mind having another baby in 9 months time USE. A. CONDOM. You are so fertile right after having a baby. Go and get the MAP!!!

Studies say it can be 75-96% effective depending on how good someone is to pull out.

I was ok and willing to go with these statistics but also avoid doing Ng anything around ovulation (I was going to buy OPKs but forgot). Then decided to check my app and boom, it was there that I realised I was on a high fertility day.

For such an allegedly smart person you arent 'alf stoopid!

Fairenuff · 01/01/2020 20:50

So there's a 25% chance that you'll get pregnant? And you're happy with that? Crack on then.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 01/01/2020 21:25

A 1 in 4 chance of getting pregnant?? That's worse than I thought. OP, come on, sort yourself out. TELL him to use a condom or no sex. And if you're not actually wanting sex yourself, just tell him no sex at the moment anyway.

Just because he wants to have sex doesn't mean he has to, you know. I want to eat my own body weight in tiramisu but I don't. Hmm

withgraceinmyheart · 01/01/2020 21:32

MAP won’t work if you’ve already ovulated, which you might have if you’re mid cycle. You’re best off getting a copper coil fitted an emergency contraception. Not sure how long you’ve got but it’s a few days. It’s much more effective than the MAP and obviously you’ve then got contraception sorted so you don’t get caught out again.

Rainbowhairdontcare · 01/01/2020 22:26

Yes, just checked and can get the IUD up.to 120hrs after intercourse. So Monday morning the latest. Will certainly do that tomorrow. Two birds one stone.

Speaking from experience

Don’t do it. I did and got pregnant

EnidButton · 02/01/2020 00:18

A 25% chance is higher than, (or around the sane as), most people have when they do a round of ivf.

Either be honest with yourself that you want another child already or don't let your life be dictated by horny men.

StarlightLady · 02/01/2020 00:53

Why are you risking this? I get super horny myself, especially just before a period. I don’t apologise for having needs. But l always carry condoms in my handbag. The two of you need to communicate and have some in your bedside drawer.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 02/01/2020 02:28

You can get pregnant from precum. What were both thinking of. I assume you're not two 16 year olds. I don't want anymore kids. Don't get me wrong if it happens (contraception failure) im sure we'll eventually be over the moon, but It not my plan. Therefore No condoms no sex. Has he never heard of wank.

RhymingRabbit3 · 02/01/2020 06:57

To be fair, the statistics dont mean a 1 in 4 chance of pregnancy every time. It means that 25% of women using this method, and having regular sex, will fall pregnant within a year.
However if you don't want to get pregnant that's still a higher chance than using actual contraception

PotteringAlong · 02/01/2020 07:03

If you are pregnant then you’ll be due in August time and both of your children will be in the same school year!

Rainbowhairdontcare · 02/01/2020 12:39

Got my coil fitted and I'm all set until we're properly ready to TTC again :)

* If you are pregnant then you’ll be due in August time and both of your children will be in the same school year!*

Not if they’re Scottish

Damntheman · 02/01/2020 13:06

Glad you got your coil in Rainbow :) Withdrawal is not a method, it's just sheer madness if you don't want to get pregnant. Slightly less mad if you're charting properly but that won't be effective when you've got a 10 week old getting you up multiple times in the night.

You do not have to have sex just because your DH is horny. He can sort himself out if you don't fancy it. Don't let him pester you! You've got a tiny newborn baby, your body needs to recover as best it can on what little sleep your baby is allowing you. DH comes last right now.

Rainbowhairdontcare · 02/01/2020 13:56

We're pretty much just as horny. He does it in s way I feel attractive and loved and not harassed at all. But because it took us longish to conceive he thought that method was ok (obviously not!) We don't
want another one but in a couple of years

Hairydogmummy · 08/01/2020 17:07

I've used the withdrawal method for 7 years. Research is scant because no one wants to encourage it because it only works if done correctly and some men just can't or don't. What research there is suggests it's as safe as condoms and again research in to their effectiveness is only as good as how well participants do it. Both me and DH are able to conceive easily and as I say, have used rhythm and withdrawal for years. It's a myth that semen before orgasm contains sperm. It's only stupid to use it if you've not researched it and made a conscious decision to do it and know that your partner is completely competent and reliable. The world is full of people conceived while their parents were using one form of contraception or another. An anecdote about knowing someone who got pregnant doing it doesn't mean someone else shouldn't do it.

mencken · 08/01/2020 17:17

Mayo clinic says 28 in 100 chance of pregnancy. About twice the real-world failure rate of condoms. Sounds quite stupid to me.

Why ruin the fun when there is real contraception available?
