Have we just got a dodgy one? The TV isn’t recognising it at all and I’ve followed the instructions and tried all the suggestions on google.

Is your account set up with a country compatible? I had to put in a UK address, other than that we had no other issues

floatfromtheshore · 01/01/2020 17:42

We haven’t even got that far! The TV just doesn’t recognise it at all!

Apologies if you've already done this and it's really obvious.

You will probably need to change the source to HDMI 1 or 2.

Also is your fire stick plugged in and charging?

Newyearnewme2020 · 01/01/2020 17:49

The points that @doadeer said are the only things we did when plugging it in to the tv

Michaelbaubles · 01/01/2020 17:50

It needs to be plugged into a power source - it doesn’t just run from the HDMI socket. It looks like it’s plug and go so I was (oddly in retrospect) surprised when I realised it needed a power cable too.

floatfromtheshore · 01/01/2020 17:54

I know - it was plugged into a power source but the tv just wasn’t recognising it

Do you have a button like this? Have you tried that?

Also , make sure you have put the batteries in the fire stick remote the right way. They go the same way, not opposite to each other as most batteries do. Don't ask how I know this.......

floatfromtheshore · 01/01/2020 18:02

Not that I can see ... thank you though!

Sorry but your remote must have a button like that. You need to tell your TV to stop accepting the normal TV feed and accept the hdmi socket.

Can you take a picture of your remote?

LittleBearPad · 01/01/2020 18:06

If it’s plugged in both electrically and into the TV thrn it must be the source. What button do you use to swap to DVD or satellite TV from normal TV.

LittleBearPad · 01/01/2020 18:07

Do you have a button that says AV on your TV

floatfromtheshore · 01/01/2020 18:09

We don’t have normal TV bear - that’s why I need a fire stick. (We have one downstairs but that one works!)

Should the AV button be on the actual TV or the remote? It isn’t on either as far as I can see.

Yes, the solution will surely be to scroll through the "source" options on your remote and choose the HDMI one.

floatfromtheshore · 01/01/2020 18:10

Hope this works

What TV do you have? Can you post a picture of the remote

SnaccidentsHappen · 01/01/2020 18:11

Top left corner button

doadeer · 01/01/2020 18:11

I've got that remote 👍 it's the top left button. Try pressing that and see which hdmi channel you need. The Amazon screen should appear

LittleBearPad · 01/01/2020 18:11

I’d say it was the top left one

doadeer · 01/01/2020 18:12

Question - What do you need the firestick for when you have amazon and Netflix on your smart tv?

TakeMeToYourLiar · 01/01/2020 18:14

Yep top left button, toggle to the correct hdmi port

floatfromtheshore · 01/01/2020 18:16

Thanks so much!

do everything else! Grin
