Stairgate help please!!

DS is 15 months and in to everything. At the moment I cant take my eyes off him because he finds something to damage himself on!

I'd like a stairgate but our end post is very curved and the bottom step wraps round it. I could stairgate the living room off by itself but i just think he will get upset that he can't follow me.

If I could have a soft one that would stretch across and be attached with hooks that would be perfect but I cant find one.

However we just installed a gate above the first step as our newel post was above the bottom.

Thanks. I dont see how I could affix that to a curved newel post tho...

We used a hexagonal playpen that you can open out.

Could you fix a plain plank on wood to the post, top to bottom?
Then attach the gate to that.
