I’ve been on minimum wage for many years. I have a degree in English and have (in the past) designed and taught adult education courses online and in person. I can’t afford training and absolutely do not want to be a teacher. I am good at non-fiction writing, research and explaining complicated concepts in a simple way. I am not so good with numbers. Are there any possible careers I could look into?

Have you considered technical writing?

Technical writing sounds very interesting- do you have to specialise in a particular area?

I'm most familiar with medical writing, but I don't think you absolutely have to specialise.

That said, I think as a writer builds up their portfolio/experience they may find themselves working more and more on one particular field.

This link (www.prospects.ac.uk/job-profiles/technical-author) has more info, and lists possible areas such as:

•	aerospace
•	banking and finance
•	defence
•	IT and telecommunications
•	medicine
•	pharmaceuticals
•	retail.
