Racist relatives

Have just got home after spending a few days over Xmas with the PIL. Dh’s sister and brother were also there and both of them are so racist it’s unreal.

They obviously have me pegged as a left wing Remoaner and I definitely got the feeling they were trying to provoke me to react. Lots of comments about how they don’t know how anyone could vote Labour. Loads of racist comments about various non Caucasian people in the public eye. Meghan Markle coming in for most of the hate, ruining the monarchy, ugly baby, etc.

Lots of comments about how anyone who is homeless, on benefits, etc don’t deserve any more help and probably get too much help as it is. And left wingers just want to take stuff from people like “us” (they’re very wealthy) and give it to scumbags.

Loads of comments about how brexit is the best thing ever, get rid of all the immigrants, etc. I feel sorry for my nephews who sat there laughing at it all, being brought up in such a hateful atmosphere must be horrible.

FIL and MIL don’t really join in the conversation although I know they’re pro brexit and anti immigration.

I feel bad about not telling them they’re a pair of racists but didn’t really feel I could start a barney at PILs. Dh said in private that he’s embarrassed by them but would never say anything to them. If my sister or brother came out with such shit I’d give them a piece of my mind. Thank God they’re 6 hours away and we barely see them!
