Lynx: how do you cope when you share a house with a user?

Obviously I've seen the memes about dangerous levels of Lynx Africa moving up the country and laughed but we've just had DP's adult son to stay overnight. He hasn't stayed with us for a few years and I'd forgotten about his over liberal use of Lynx. I'd been outside when he got up and was overcome with fumes as soon as I came in. The good host in me battled with my overwhelming desire to open all windows and doors to air the house. It's noxious!

As a result, I wonder: how on earth do you cope when you have to share a home with a user?

Do you get used to the smell over time?

How quickly do they get through a can?

I'm assuming there is never a need to spray air freshener to mask other smells in the bathroom?

Are the men who use Lynx still under the impression that women will clamber over anything and anyone to be with them because of how they smell?

How many women would actually run a mile in the opposite direction if they found a new man was a devotee?

It doesn't bother me and lots of smells do. Some perfumes things have a really strong something in them - no idea what it is but it goes for my head. Lynx doesn't have it so it's fine for use in my house. Also teenage me used to crave the small of a boy wearing lynx oriental Blush

Jellykat · 31/12/2019 19:06

Thankfully once my 2 DSs stopped being teenagers they'd grown out of the stinky Lynx faze.. The only way i survived up until that point, was to ban the spraying of it to outside!

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2019 19:12

My teen/young adult sons never used it thank god They were encouraged towards daily showers and roll-on anti-perspirants instead as sprays set off DH's asthma.

So perhaps the habits of overapplication are learned as teenagers avoiding washing themselves and continue into adulthood?

He's mid twenties (but still acts like a teenager in many ways).

Lynx was invented as revenge for impulse. 😁
Guys you win.

Adult males use it?? My husband used it in copious amounts when we were at uni and school was a fog of the stuff!

I would say a good stick deodorant and a spray of aftershave would be much better but I guess lynx is cheap! You have my sympathies.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 01/01/2020 10:49

Ah, lynx, the scent of teenage desperation!

stripeypillowcase · 01/01/2020 10:49

my fil used it.
he was the only one I would allow to use it in the house. he was very considerate and opened the windows after he used the bathroom after using it. (still stank, but I could forgive him because he was a great person)

Clutterbugsmum · 01/01/2020 11:40

How about teach him how to use properly. Same as I've taught my daughters to not over use sprays.

My DH has used it as long as I've known him (20 plus) years and never stank out the house.

DrivingMsCrazy · 01/01/2020 12:19

When my DC hit teenage I told him we were and would remain a Lynx/cheap shite free household. Got him a nice roll on anti-perspirant and a bottle of a good brand men's cologne - it was massively reduced in local chemist summer sale, bonus. He sprays one scoosh on top of his clothes, smells great all day as it lasts and it has lasted him over a year so far. Agree OP there's something in Lynx that makes me cough and I can't imagine how awful it must be for someone with asthma or a weak chest. Horrible stuff.

stripeypillowcase · 01/01/2020 12:45

lynx also make roll ons btw.
if teen really wants that smell... then it stays on the person, just not in the whole house as with the spray

candycane22 · 01/01/2020 13:36

I love lynx. I buy it for my 40+ DP

9GreenBottles · 01/01/2020 15:26

Ah, but would you make a mad dash for the man wearing it candycane22?

I only really like dark temptation lynx..my bf smells lush to me with it on. Doesn't go overboard with it though

StrawberryIsMyJam · 01/01/2020 15:51

My son used to marinate himself in the stuff as a teenager, to the point where, when chatting to my neighbour one evening, she actually asked me what that smell was as it wafted out of his bedroom window!

Mother87 · 01/01/2020 16:02

When DS21 used to have his mates round, it was like a lynx-fug in our house. Now it's equally strong but slightly less 'chemically' after shavesGrin

justaweeone · 01/01/2020 16:27

Try walking down the PE corridor at the high school I work at 🤦‍♀️
I refer to it as 'shower in a can'!

Teddyreddy · 01/01/2020 17:03

DH used to use Lynx shower gel, until he moved jobs and started showering in the evening due to a very early start. He stank so badly of it in bed at night I told him he either got a new shower gel or slept in the spare room! When he showered in the morning the smell had obviously always worn off in time....

CanISpeakToYourManager · 01/01/2020 17:15

I insisted my teenage son move to roll on lynx. Hugely helpful. I don't mind the occasional guest who over uses, they'll be gone soon.
