Looking for advice on safe ways for my teenage daughter to shave

Hi 'all. My 12 year old daughter wants to start shaving, which is reasonable but there's been a problem locally with girls using razors to self harm. I'm not saying she will but I don't want to give her the opportunity. Not keen to start her waxing yet and the cream is messy, so do anyone have a recommendation on an electric razor? Thanks

I have a Braun, does the job.

I've also seen some cheaper IPL hair removal on Amazon. If I were a teen now, I'd just get one of those, Ebay have lots of the Phillips ones for sale used so they must be working!

Groupon also do deals for laser hair removal.

@rudolfsquiffy IPL or laser hair removal requires the area to be shaved first

Yes, I know, I was just suggesting IPL as a long term solution rather than a lifetime of shaving waxing epilators etc.

Waxing is much, much better than shaving - why wouldn't you want her to do that? Especially if you have worries about self-harming.

Yes I’d go with ipl if I was a teen now! Wish it had been around when I needed to start shaving.

Otherwise the only thing I can think of is an electric razor

If your daughter ever feels the need to self harm I can imagine she'll do it anyway, with another family member's razor, buying one herself or using something else.

I would go through the options and ask her what she would prefer to do.

BaubleTheLumpOfCoal · 31/12/2019 13:54

I would talk to her about all the options available for hair removal, the pros and cons and then let her choose.

All of the methods have pros and cons but I would say that waxing is a much better option than shaving/hair removal creams.
I haven't used IPL or epilators but I've heard they're good too.

I'd let her try a few methods and see what she prefers, I wasn't allowed to shave till I was 14 (I was really clumsy/possibly dyspraxic), my skin blistered when I tried wax (both cold strips and hot in a nice salon) but I was fine with sensitive neet/vair.

Thank you all for your comments. I think I'll chat with my daughter and trail a few options.
