Fed up with facebook apart from a couple of groups I’m in

In recent months I feel like I’ve become addicted to facebook. Not so much posting things but liking things and saving things of interest to read or view later. I was literally checking it several times an hour. Just before Christmas I was becoming paranoid at some of the cryptic messages some friends were putting on there. I also found out a few things on there that upset me. I have not looked at it once for a week and a half and have felt much better.
The only thing is I have joined a few groups on there which I find incredibly useful. One in particular is a fitness plan which I have subscribed to and is brilliant as it has fitness videos, nutrition tips and a big support forum. I was using this every day and I do miss it.

I was wondering if there is anyway that you can somehow change settings on fb so that you can only view your groups and cut out all the other crap. I’m guessing not but thought it’s worth an ask.

I unfollow everyone (staying friends, you just don't see their posts any more) so all that appears in my feed now is my own posts and groups I'm part of. It's a much nicer experience!

Exactly what Undercover says.
I am similar, love some of the groups but find some other posts tedious/attention seeking.

Is there anyway you can block the ads?

Littlemiss74 · 30/12/2019 09:19

Ooh thank you, I didn’t know about this. If I unfollow friends will they know that I’ve done that? I don’t want to offend anyone, I just want to use fb in a different way.

No they will not know.

I've been tempted to close my account and open a new one with maybe a slightly different spelling of my first name (if you have friends that are teachers, it's something I've seen a lot so students don't search for them). Then just follow groups without befriending people. I haven't made the leap yet! I've such a love/hate relationship with Facebook!
