The Lego annuals that were supposed to go into the dcs' stockings 🤦 In the same bag were bags of sweets and two other books. I'm happy to jump on the haribo grenade and the books will keep for birthday presents, but I'm now going to have to find a reason to give the kids more bloody presents (the annuals) before the end of the week!

I guess it balances out the Minecraft toy I forgot to give ds last year. Luckily it worked for this year's list.

Anyone else found very well hidden gifts?

I definitely bought a forky toy, we are still yet to find it.

I once asked for a Pop Swatch (remember them?) Got it in May when my Mum stumbled across it in a cupboard. She told me on Christmas Day she had bought it but had forgotten where she had hidden it and would find it eventually. Happened with one present at least every year. Just became one of those quirky things about my Mum and I like remembering them now I'm older. Just give them the annuals now and say you'd forgot them!

A book for DGS. Will give him it tomorrow. Luckily he's too young to understand Santa, so it'll be fine.

My mum did this one year, we got told to put our shoes out for the 3 wise men on epiphany (6th Jan) like our Spanish friends

BelfastSmile · 28/12/2019 22:17

My MIL bought me a wool wonder for Christmas several years ago, hid it too well, and couldn't find it in time for Christmas.

She promised she'd give it to me when she came across it, but she died a few months later. She'd be most amused to know that I'm still vaguely hoping it turns up.

Sweetpeach3 · 28/12/2019 22:18

NYE annual is the best idea yet!! Genius x

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 28/12/2019 22:22

I'm obviously turning into my mum, she collects presents all year and finds them for the whole of the next year.

Glad I'm not alone

My mum found a set of Fisher Price cars a few months ago that she forgot to give my brother for his first Christmas.....his first Christmas was in 1999Grin

whatnow40 · 28/12/2019 22:36

I have an app to log what presents I've bought for each person, if they have been delivered yet, wrapped yet, and to note where they are hidden. Fucking genius.

mumwon · 28/12/2019 22:46

I am still looking for the Christmas decoration box - we had to buy new ones (again) fortunately we didn't put the xmas lights away so I found them (by accident)

scarbados · 28/12/2019 22:51

My DH once hid my presents - very unusual for him to have them bought early enough to hide!

On Dec 23rd he took some stuff to the paper recycling skip across the road from where we were living. As he tipped the contents of his rucksack into the skip, he remembered where he'd hidden my presents.

So he was out buying things on Christmas Eve after all.

@whatnow40 what app is that? Sounds like I need it!

TheNoodlesIncident · 29/12/2019 00:18

Somewhere in our house is a big tube of orange Smarties and a pair of comedy Christmas socks, in DH's size.

I have been tearing my hair out trying to find them. I'm starting to fret now that I left them in Asda especially as I have form for this as they aren't in either of the two accepted present hiding places - the Cupboard of Doom, which locks and has a drawer underneath I can hide the key in, and the super messy boxroom upstairs, aka The Room of Doom. I have searched both and other random places.

I really REALLY want those Smarties now...

catanddogmake6 · 29/12/2019 00:19

I use a similar (possibly same) app called Santa’s bag. The app is really good just doesn’t allow for human incompetence and presents arriving at just the wrong moment and have to be stashed away from prying eyes. At least I’ve normally noted down what I’ve bought so I know what I’m still searching for.

WutheringFrights · 29/12/2019 00:25

I sent SIL a thank you message from the kids saying thank you for xyz and a bit later she replied with two photos of presents that should also have arrived .... she lives in America so either they never got here or they got here - we filed them away and they will turn up randomly during the year!

JeezyPeeps · 29/12/2019 00:31

Surely the simplest thing (so you don't start a random new gift giving tradition) is to say 'these were reduced in the sales, thought you might like them.'

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 29/12/2019 00:31

catanddogmake6 will kids who can read know what that app is?

WutheringFrights that brings me.ouf in cold sweats. Bad enough to lose presents I've bought, but other rellies' [santa]

There are a few apps like this but the one I use is free. It does the job! Wink
