New Years Eve with DC

We are usually at my parents (overseas) over the festive season, and so celebrate there.

This year we are at home, and I would really love to do something. We have DC though, in the range of 6yrs to 16yrs, and so will be at home. Likely to be just us too, so no 'party' atmosphere.

What are you all doing on NYE? Or even NYD for that matter? Would love some ideas to pinch Xmas Smile

When I was small, we always had a games night - no dinner, but a party food buffet out in the kitchen to help ourselves to throughout the evening, and board games. We each got to choose a few board games and would select each one randomly. The contents of the buffet and the choice of board games changed over the years, but the format stays the same. Started this when I was too small to stay awake until midnight, and we still get together to do this every year and I'm 29! My favourite night of the year. When it gets to midnight, switch on the telly to watch the fireworks, kisses all round, raise a toast, and talk about plans for the year ahead and any big events in the year just gone.

I'm stealing the games night idea because NYE is a bit of a non event with small kids but this sounds fun.

Game night sounds like a great idea Xmas Smile

We normally just get some nice food in and alcohol, get the younger kids to bed, let eldest stay up, either watch a film or put music on.

Sounds nice and chilled out Jemima.

It’s just me and DD 13 here.

We could go to an event but DD doesn’t fancy it so I think we are having a Harry Potter or Avengers film night, watching whichever films either of us choose - I reckon we will start at 5pm. Shower, pyjamas, popcorn machine, cream soda, pizza, dessert and a bottle of Prosecco for me!

There is a fantastic local firework display at midnight which we will watch from our upstairs sitting room if we are still awake.
