SATs Primary Marking - Worthwhile? Teacher Advice

Hi all,

As a primary teacher i'm thinking on becoming a marker for this summers SATs.

Wondering if someone who has done SATs marking before can give me the low down on how it works. How many papers do you approximately mark in the 3 weeks? What test paper do you recommend is best to mark first time around - SPAG, Maths or Reading? (I know training is given but opinions welcome)

Also, most importantly, is it financially worthwhile? Researching threads about previous years it seems some are saying it's not really worth it.

What would you say? Welcome some friendly advice.

Thanks in advance,
Rach.

I was registered for marking the maths SATs for three years and didn’t get a snifter. Until the fourth year when I was on maternity and they signed me up without my say so, sent me the mark scheme despite me saying I couldn’t do it without losing maternity pay, and calling me constantly for four days. Eventually I had to tell them it was really stressing me out how multiple people were calling per day to ask the same questions as the people before them, but that nobody could resolve the situation. Am now not signed up for it!

The money did used to be better. I'm not sure financially it's worth the time any more. It means giving up your half term and every evening during the period.

I used to use the money to pay for a holiday but the money doesn't really cover that any more and I'd rather spend the time with my dc.

Reading seems to be the subject they need most markers for.

@OytheBumbler Thank you, that seems to be the general consensus. So yet to find another opinion, thanks for confirming!
