What Time Did You Eat Xmas Lunch?

I was criticised (subtly) by an elderly relative for serving Christmas lunch so late yesterday.

By the time the teenagers got up, we opened presents, ate breakfast, had visitors in the morning and then cooked lunch, we didn't eat until 3pm.

Is that ridiculously late?

She’d hate my house! Aimed for 5.30 and ended up being 6.20. I hate eating heavily in the middle of the day. 3pm is fine - makes the meal the focus of the day.

dawnc27 · 26/12/2019 12:26

always aim for 3, usually bout 3.30 ish but was bang on time yesterday

Heismyopendoor · 26/12/2019 12:27

About 2.30 we ate. Then had dessert and crisps and dip at about 7.

I think 3 is normal! That’s when we aim for.

NeighbourPooNameChange · 26/12/2019 12:28

4:30 I think :) 3 is perfectly acceptable. Dinner while the queens speech is on. Isn’t that a ‘thing’? Although we would have the tv on during Xmas dinner :) some people don’t. 🤷‍♀️

FurryDogMother · 26/12/2019 12:28

4 pm, which is what I aimed for. I was quite surprised that my calculations were correct!

Fatted · 26/12/2019 12:28

4pm

Ive always had Christmas dinner late in the day. My parents have it as an evening meal.

smemorata · 26/12/2019 12:28

1.30 Any later and everyone would be starving!

YahBasic · 26/12/2019 12:29

2.30pm then had dessert about 4 ish and cheese course at 6 ish.

Nothing like spreading it out!

Saltnpepper5 · 26/12/2019 12:29

Served ours up at 4:15pm.

popcorndiva · 26/12/2019 12:30

Half three. We watched the queens speech before getting all the veg and extras out if the oven and plating up.

Joyfulincolour · 26/12/2019 12:30

About to eat it at 1pm today! That would upskittle your elderly relative!! We have afternoon tea on Christmas day to take the pressure off trying to prep food and see everyone. Looking forward to my Christmas dinner now. 😀

Genzeee · 26/12/2019 12:30

1.30 as I love leftovers

beachcomber70 · 26/12/2019 12:31

2.20pm...just right. Then supper at 7pm.

nevergotthehangofturkeys · 26/12/2019 12:31

Well, we had ours at 5.30 pm. Grin She'd hate us.

We went to some friends for drinks, snacks and games and more drinks, strolled home for roundabout 2, then put the (small) turkey on and had our dinner in the early evening. Suited us and late teen DCs perfectly.

Tell your relative that what time you have Christmas dinner is none of their beeswax.

SpinjitzuMaster · 26/12/2019 12:31

Starters were out at 2:30....by the time we had dessert it was about 5:00 and then the cheese board was delayed until after the kids were in bed an hour or so later (they were knackered!).

We don't have dinner til 9ish most days Confused

NeighbourPooNameChange · 26/12/2019 12:32

Joyful you sound like my kind of people! 😃🤩😃

Whiskeylover45 · 26/12/2019 12:32

14.30 for us. But then I just wanted to get the cooking out of the way so I could focus on chilling

Anna713 · 26/12/2019 12:32

4.30 in our house. Should have been 4pm so half an hour late is not too bad. My sons have other family to visit and I have to pick my mum up, so later in the day suits us.

SpinjitzuMaster · 26/12/2019 12:33

Oh, and we hate turkey so had venison instead which most people are horrified by! (The lack of turkey rather than the venison, that is)

londonscalling · 26/12/2019 12:34

Thanks. I think the criticism was because, at their age, they eat at set times every day. All their meal times are a lot earlier than ours. They eat at the same time every day regardless of whether or not they are hungry!

Always 3pm here.

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 26/12/2019 12:35

1pm

emilybrontescorsett · 26/12/2019 12:35

Ours was very late as ds was working.

mygrandchildrenrock · 26/12/2019 12:37

I’d planned for 3.30 but it was nearer 4 and we had Christmas puddings at 6.30!
