I keep hearing sad/stressful/angry stories this Christmas, so wanted to spread some cheer. Tell me what you've enjoyed about Christmas this year!

I've loved having a long walk in the woods with DH and doggo, loved my presents and just having a nice relaxing time at home playing games, having a drink, eating and lots of laughs. We're not doing anything special or out of the ordinary but I love it.

Yes it's been fine!! Apart from my friend falling off her horse and breaking her arm the rest of the day has been reasonable. Kids ok, food ok, horses ok, dogs ok!

Ohyesiam · 25/12/2019 19:57

Yes, I’ve had a really good day.
I’m with my elderly mum and in-laws. FIL has some undiagnosed mobility problems and it’s a worrying time, so I’ve enjoyed doing the meals and taking the weight of their shoulders.
DH and I worked well together in the kitchen, the kids ( 12& 15 ) were really appreciative of their presents, and have been very helpful and generally delightful. Gorgeous sunny day.
This is Day 2 of a 5 day stint with the olds, my mum in particular can be very tricky, so plenty of scope for it all to go downhillXmas Grin. But yes, so far I have definitely enjoyed my Christmas.

It’s been a lovely day. I’m full of good food and looking forward to Gavin and Stacey. Next few days are busy with celebrations too. I’m very happy.

Congratulations on your engagement, Holly!

We've had a lovely day. DD is still slightly unwell and I think I'm going down with it as well but for once I didn't have any wrapping to do last night, we all had lovely presents and even the turkey was cooked on time! Really enjoyed yesterday and today.

Hope everyone else has had the best day possible!

shinynewapplesonachristmastree · 25/12/2019 20:06

Yes . We've had quite a peaceful day - presents and dog walk this morning, smoked salmon & scrambled egg brunch followed by family visits. Dinner around 5 pm, just me, DH, DS and dog (who rejected his roastie but enjoyed the turkey and pugs in blankets) .

DS has now gone to spend the evening with his GF so just me and DH watching TV and working our way through Christmas goodies.

Yoshimi2019 · 25/12/2019 20:08

I almost don't want to share my highlights because it might burst the bubble... Its been a simple but very lovely Christmas Day.

DC didn't want to go to bed and were sad because they they didn't want it to end - and I felt exactly the same. But I read a funny Christmas story at bedtime and they thought it was hilarious - lovely children's wholehearted giggling that is really infectious.

I may have had a little cry when they fell asleep.

flounderfish · 25/12/2019 20:14

I have! This is the first year my ds has really 'got' Christmas so it has been really magical. He hasn't yet opened all his presents, choosing to open one then play with it for a while. We have watched Snail and the Whale, some Christmassy films, DH made a scrumptious lunch, MIL and I cleaned up.

DS has just gone to sleep after a few Christmas themed books, and I can smell mulled wine about to be served with some Christmas pud (too full earlier)

The last few Christmases have been quite sad (FIL terminally ill/grieving MIL and DH), and toddler quite high needs so a little stressful. I am grateful for a more relaxed and less painful Christmas this year.

Mines been lovely though I am full of cold. Just the 3 of us. Everyone happy with pressies. Nice brekkie then dinner about 5.30. Nothing over the top. I'm only on here for 20 mins as I am trying to stay awake for Gavin and Stacy. Grin

Parsley65 · 25/12/2019 20:20

Lovely day here.
Had a lie in and sun was shining 😎
Went for a walk along the canal.
Other than that stayed in pjs all day.
Two teens cooked dinner (steak and chips) and cocktails 🍹
Now feeling merry and will need my bed quite soon...

mouse26 · 25/12/2019 20:23

Yes, dss have been getting on for a change, we've all had some lovely thoughtful gifts. Went to mils for a beautiful dinner. Me and mil drank gin and a lovely bottle of asti. Came home for a little nap and will spend the rest of the evening chilling with more gin, cheese and crackers

Doobydoo · 25/12/2019 20:26

Yes. Children loved their presents. I loved mine,dp loved his, dogs loved theirs. Warm cosy..fab grub and feel very grateful.

HelenaJustina · 25/12/2019 20:27

We have. My lunch was my best produced one yet and I’ve had no PMT meltdown today/this week despite coming on yesterday! It’s all away, washed up, plans laid for next couple of days - none of which involve me cooking or hosting.

We got the kids and dog out for a 3 mile walk after lunch and there was no moaning at all, they were ecstatic with all their presents including random necessities such as pencil case refills for school.

DH did a half decent job with my presents, so much better now that eldest DC is able to give him direction and guidance.

Kids in pjs watching a film and will go to bed straight after, I’ll have a glass of wine and follow them fairly soon after as yesterday was a long one!

Spanielmadness · 25/12/2019 20:30

First Xmas sort of on my own (with the dog).
I slept in, walked the dog, popped over to future BIL and family for lunch (only met once or twice before) and now I’m watching tv with cream liqueur. It’s been lovely, all my family have been worried about me being alone and aren’t convinced I’m quite happy! 🤣

mangomama91 · 25/12/2019 20:37

I've had a really lovely day!
Stayed at home with husband and daughters, 7 and 3.

The children woke quite late! Around 730/8, they opened their stocking presents in our bedroom.
Then downstairs to discover father Christmas had left more by the tree and had eaten his mince pie etc and left a letter.

Had breakfast.
Opened presents.
I was very spoilt this year from husband. 💜
Just us at home so food was done whenever it was ready.
Children played with new toys.
Watched a film together.
I washed up.
Played some games together.
Girls got their pjs on.
Watches tiger who came for tea, as we missed it last night.

Perfect ♥️

JaJoJe · 25/12/2019 20:43

yeah its been fine, no drama or issues.

bathplugbonkers · 25/12/2019 20:45

It's been lovely. I went to midnight Mass for the first time ever last night, which was a good start, and today has been a chill walk, nice food, board games, no rows so good all roundCrown Smile

Sssneks · 25/12/2019 20:51

@stitchwitch85

Oh my goodness, good luck!! I hope everything goes beautifully for you both.

InTheCludgie · 25/12/2019 21:03

Today was better than I expected. Was dreading it as it's the first Xmas without my DF, but it was actually quite a nice day. Felt sure beforehand that I would need to get blind drunk to get through it (including the visit from MIL!) but only had a few.

stitchwitch85 · 25/12/2019 21:07

@Sssneks thank you! It's all rather slow, but I had my bloody show today (such joy!) and a very active baby who is definitely ready to meet the world!

Had a lovely time at DPs and now DH and I are at home with hot chocolate and a jigsaw. I have a new snuggly hoody and it's perfect!

WildRosie · 25/12/2019 21:09

Yes and no. I stopped participating in Christmas more than twenty years ago and I've lived alone for most of that time. Historically, I've found Christmas Day to be something of a wasted day but today was a little different. I spent two hours in a local pub late this morning until lunchtime - something I've never done before and it was pleasant and relaxing. Just me and my tablet and phone and a few coffees and a nice open fire to sit next to. A quick lunch, a walk round the reservoir then home mid-afternoon. It was so quiet - very little traffic and none of my neighbouring flat-owners at home - but peacefully so, not eerily quiet.

I'm off to bed when I finish this brandy. All in all, not a perfect Christmas Day for many but the best I've had in a lot of years.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 25/12/2019 21:41

Yes, pretty chilled here considering the levels of excitement from the DC. They got up to open stockings just before 7, then I didn’t really hear a peep out of them until my parents, DB and DSIL arrived mid-morning. DS got 3 new Switch games so he disappeared for most of the day, busy chattering to his friends from school while playing online. DD’s been playing on her new keyboard. DP, DF and I tackled a jigsaw. Much food eaten by all. DC are now asleep and I won’t be far behind.

Gazelda · 25/12/2019 22:01

Lovely!

We had a fab morning opening presents in bed then a delicious breakfast of pastries.

Went to family for lunch, lots of laughter.
Then back home with MIL who's staying overnight. She caught up on her soaps while Dd and I went through her gifts again while eating chocs.
I asked DD (11) just now what her favourite part of the day was. She said the morning when it was just the three of us closely followed by lunch with all the noise and chaos. The gifts didn't merit a mention, it's all about being with people she loves and who love her. And no one loves her more than I do.

upaladderagain · 25/12/2019 22:26

First Christmas in over 30 years without the kids.
Just DH and me in a cosy country cottage, a long walk, presents to open, late lunch, lazy afternoon, wine and chocs. It's been lovely. No stress or expectations just doing things our own way in our own time.
DH needed to relax after a very stressful time at work, and although I've missed the kids and grandchildren I'm glad to be here.

GoingAGoGo · 25/12/2019 22:29

I enjoyed mine. I was working last night. I went to bed when I got home where I slept until 7.
Got up, had a shower and 'breakfast' and just about to set off back to work.
The husband spent his day binging on Netflix I think.

Heartofglass12345 · 25/12/2019 22:30

Me! My in laws came over for dinner, my food was lush Grin my family came over later on and it was just lovely. Then I watched Gavin and Stacey with a huge glass of baileys Grin
