I keep hearing sad/stressful/angry stories this Christmas, so wanted to spread some cheer. Tell me what you've enjoyed about Christmas this year!

I've loved having a long walk in the woods with DH and doggo, loved my presents and just having a nice relaxing time at home playing games, having a drink, eating and lots of laughs. We're not doing anything special or out of the ordinary but I love it.

Me!
First one in 4 years I've not worked
No stresses just really relaxed even though dd is unwell.
Sat in pjs watching strictly whilst the potatoes cook then a simple dinner and a ton of chics whilst watching gavin and Stacey-bliss

mindproject · 25/12/2019 17:49

It's been peaceful, cosy and lovely. We spent an hour opening presents, another hour setting up new electricals, another hour cooking dinner. The rest of the day has been spent eating, drinking, watching TV and YouTube, organising new things, playing quiz games and relaxing on the internet. No fuss, no arguments, just a lovely day.

dementedma · 25/12/2019 17:51

Yes, lovely. good presents all round, delicious dinner, now relaxing with books and glass of wine.

Yes, I am exhausted and have had far too little sleep this week and DC got up at 6am, but it has been a nice day. Stayed at home rather than seeing family or going to work for the first time, only got dressed for a couple of hours this afternoon to try on my new dress, DC haven't got dressed at all. DH and I both cooked dinner and shared that job. Not too many tears and tantrums from DC. Much less stressful than having to get up and dressed and be at someone else's house for a set time and make conversation and try and avoid extended family arguments while DC play up (and a million times less stressful than work).

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 25/12/2019 17:54

I'm having a wonderful Christmas. We all (DB and SIL, my DC and I) arrived at my parents yesterday afternoon and it's been nothing but fun and joyful celebration ever since. We're all meeting the rest of the family for the day on Saturday at my other brother's house and I'm looking forward to that. I'm very, very lucky to have such a close, loving family. There's no one any of us dread seeing, and I know that's rare.

I had a fabulous lunch with 77 people in the Parish Hall. We started at church for the morning service (after not getting to bed till 1.30am after a wonderful Midnight Mass. Then straight on to the Hall to serve welcome drinks, 3 course lunch and a game of Bingo. Then all the washing up and clearing away. Got home about 5.30. Am exhausted but have met some lovely people, worked with a fabulous team and generally had a brilliant day. Now having a glass of fizz and waiting for Gavin and Stacey.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 25/12/2019 18:05

Yes, lovely, except for some grumping by one of the DC (tired, period pain).

All of the DC were at home, which is increasingly unusual as they are all pretty much adults now. I was given a combo of thoughtful things and stuff I had requested, and everyone else liked their presents: the DC had thought hard about what to get for each other and for us.

DH did most of the cooking (I'd done a whole load of prep yesterday), I set the table with DC help, and the DC did most of the washing up.

All the DC are currently playing a board game together in the dining room while DH and I flop in the sitting room.

PeriComoToes · 25/12/2019 18:07

I have surprisingly after a fairly shitty Christmas Eve.

Lie in til 9 (that's teenagers for you!). Presents (not too many) croissants and coffee (and chocolates), a couple of easy games, getting dressed, prepping veg (DH cooked), cracked open the bubbly at 2pm, cracking dinner at 3.30pm, Christmas gift DVDs and more bubbly for the last 2 hours, more information f the same planned over the next few hours with possibly a sandwich thrown in at some point or maybe dessert.

Have had 2 minutes of annoyance, one this morning, one this morning both MIL but non intentional and completely down to my up tightness!

A better Christmas day than last year I think.

@bloodywhitecat One of the best posts I’ve read on here all day.

Toughmonkeys · 25/12/2019 18:11

Yes, even with the youngest being poorly it's still been a good Christmas, maybe not the best but everyone is happy and we are all chilling watching 80s films

Babdoc · 25/12/2019 18:14

Lovely Watchnight service last night. Whole family v pleased with their presents, big buffet lunch, then out for a 4 mile walk along the river Tay in glorious sunlight, with views right out to sea across the estuary. Coming back, stopped to watch a stunning sunset over the hills from Kingoodie, across Invergowrie bay.
Now having drinks and waiting for the turkey to have its final hour in the oven before our candlelit Christmas dinner. Bliss!

JoGose · 25/12/2019 18:17

I’ve had a lovely day. Kids loved their presents and we chilled out all day

KatherineJaneway · 25/12/2019 18:18

Yes. Being with family and my beloved cats. Great food, nice champers and lovely presents.

Ohffs66 · 25/12/2019 18:18

Lovely day, just me DH and Ddog. Frosty walk early doors, croissants and Baileys coffee for breakfast, blinis at midday. DH bought me amazing presents and I'm fairly sure he was thrilled with his, Ddog was over the moon with excitement at hers and has carried them round the house all day, I actually cried at the cuteness. Had a late dinner, all the food turned out lovely. Lots of Bucks Fizz and Prosecco, poor DH has endured my singing all day and we've danced a bit. Ddog has finally passed out from the excitement and we're gearing up for a board game before the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special. I feel very very fortunate today, it's been perfect.

MoobaaMoobaa · 25/12/2019 18:19

Yes, for the first time in 20 years we are not spending it with family, so just dh me and 2 teen DC.

We had family staying since Sunday, so have done lots nice christmassy stuff and board games with them.

After they all left, We went to the Cinema last night. Once home DC opened their stockings before DH and me went to bed.

Today has been lovely and relaxed, eating lots, fiddling about with new presents, watching TV, and going for short walk.

Was contemplating doing the Christmas pudding next.

umberellaonesie · 25/12/2019 18:20

Yes, I put my foot down 5 years ago and we don't go over the door on Christmas day, we just chill at home, no visitors, no fuss a lovely dinner.
I had family call trying to go for a Christmas walk with us but I held the line. just us and the kids in our jammies watching films and enjoying our presents.
Seeing wider family tomorrow but again maintaining boundaries, to prevent stress and overwhelm.
Boundaries improve relationships.

The80sweregreat · 25/12/2019 18:21

It's been good. Turkey dinner was nice. A few nibbles for tea with a nice cup of tea.
I don't expect much at Christmas to be fair!

MerchantOfVenom · 25/12/2019 18:31

Yes, had a lovely Christmas.

The kids enjoyed all their pressies. I pottered around in the morning preparing the food I was taking to my cousins.

Got down to her place at midday. Amazing food, and laughing-so-hard we we crying for most of the post-lunch convo around the table.

Home, some lego with the kids, in bed for them, and Love Actually with a glass of wine.

Couldn't have asked for better.

MissMoan · 25/12/2019 18:36

I cooked - and it didn't burn! Grin

RudolphIsMySpiritAnimal · 25/12/2019 18:38

We've had a really lovely day. Just DH, the DC, my DM and I. We invited MIL and FIL but they didn't want to come.

Everyone loved their presents, dinner was delicious if I do say so myself, and relatively stress-free to make, and now we are all cuddled up in front of the TV. It's been pretty much perfect

ssd · 25/12/2019 18:41

I've enjoyed it. Just the 4 of us no family around. I went a long walk earlier. We've had dinner, there wasn't enough though.

bengalcat · 25/12/2019 18:41

Looking forward to a fumble on the sofa later . X

Bigredumbrella · 25/12/2019 18:44

We have had a lovely day, made a last minute decision to have our big dinner on boxing day so Dh went out last night and picked up a huge Indian take out which we will have a bit later. We also foster and took 2 siblings on the 23rd as an emergency placement. They are 4& 6 its been lovely to enjoy having little ones this year and my teenage kids have had a ball building lego & Playmobil. I have a little fairy riding around my kitchen on a scooter, my house is chaos and i wouldn't change a thing.
.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 25/12/2019 18:45

It's been one of the best. We've had no TV or broadband for a few months so haven't missed the Xmas TV listings. Resisted the twitch and didn't go overboard gift wise and feel better for it, the girls are happy with what they have had. DH and I don't exchange gifts, I bought myself a few bits in the black Friday sale and DH will get something in the Jan sales. The drink has been flowing and the food has been good, I love spending time with the ILs so it's been nice. I'm happy and tired and ready for bed already.

lovelyjubilly · 25/12/2019 18:47
