Just that really? Any other households where the men do the cooking? My dad always did dinner too! Hubby is by far a better cook!! Happy Christmas 🎄

My OH always does the Christmas dinner, roasts, most of the family meals...

RedDhalia · 25/12/2019 13:17

Mine is currently slaving away in the kitchen. It's irrelevant if it's Xmas or not, he always does the cooking as he's an ex-chef.

Usually I will buy and wrap all presents, help get the house in a presentable state, order the big food shop and entertain the kids.

December saw me have 3 mayor (and unexpected) ops on my spine, so the wonderful man has done it all.. it was brilliant to watch the kids open their presents this morning as I had no idea what was inside!!

I am a very very lucky woman and I love the bones out of him.

Mine is doing the cooking. I keep going in to help and being told it's all under control. He is a fantastic cook so I'm happy enough with that.

My DH does all the cooking in our house and Christmas dinner is his signature dish. So I'm sat drinking prosecco watching Moana

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 25/12/2019 13:29

Yup.

First meal he's cooked this year.

Aready heard him muttering about onion rings and he's just come in to ask if we owned a jug.

Meh. I'm unbothered. I'll eat whatever.

CallmeAngelina · 25/12/2019 13:30

Yep. Dh here too.
He gets a bit territorial about it though, which is annoying because I fancied experimenting with the carrots and sprouts this year and he's having none of it.

HavelockVetinari · 25/12/2019 13:30

Oh @Backofthebunty what a sad yet also lovely story! Flowers

SuperFurryDoggy · 25/12/2019 13:36

Not this year, but it will be the first one since we got together 12 years ago as DH is our main cook. He’s had a really stressful lead up to Christmas this year so I insisted he sat back and let me do everything for the next few days. That said, he keeps popping his head around the door looking increasingly nervous, so we’ll see. I did manage our traditional eggs benedict this morning without any fuck ups though, so it’s looking hopeful...

I grew up with parents who share cooking duties, but I don’t think FIL even knows where their kitchen is located!

MitziK · 25/12/2019 13:39

Yes. He's - variable - in his cooking capabilities, but he does really good roasties.

I seared the beef this morning and chucked it in the slow cooker, as I don't trust the oven (or him) not to cremate it and we've had a 'discussion' about how best to cook cabbage and sprouts. I say 'chuck them into rapidly boiling water and take them out immediately they go luminous, he reckons put them in cold water, bring it up to the boil and leave them until they're looking and tasting like pond weed for exactly 4 minutes after they reach boiling point and then forget about them stewing in the pans until it's time to slop them on the plates with half a gallon of cabbage water.

Mostly, I do very little cooking and more of the eating. He says I stress him out in the kitchen, I say he stresses me out by not cleaning up as he goes and keeping the prep area clean at all times.

I'm looking forward to being able to get in there (without wanting to kill him) for the next week whilst I'm off work and he's back in the office.

MiniMaxi · 25/12/2019 13:42

My Dad and DH collaborating this year (and generally both do more of the cooking than me and Mum). Hurrah! (I’m hanging out with DS and getting started on the vino)

user1493413286 · 25/12/2019 13:45

Mine does; I wouldn’t host if I had to in all honesty

GaaaaarlicBread · 25/12/2019 13:47

Yes , mine is far better at managing times with cooking larger meals ! It really confuses me lol

Pipandmum · 25/12/2019 13:48

Mine did when he was alive. My cousin's partner does all the cooking at their house too. He's retired and loves to cook but my husband worked an 60-80 hour week but cooking was how he relaxed. He was a tidy cook too!

Panpastels · 25/12/2019 13:50

Yes my dp does it all. Smile

Snaga · 25/12/2019 13:53

Yep. I've never cooked a Christmas dinner (or a roast dinner). Thank goodness for my husband who can most definitely cook...if Christmas dinner was my responsibility we would have pizza!

3kidsareenough · 25/12/2019 13:58

Same here🥂 DH loves cooking- gets lots of recipe books as presents!! So me and the kids have been dispatched to the living room to chill while he gets it all sorted.... I'm not gonna lie it's tidy (Nessa voice used Xmas Wink) enjoy everyone

TheNinkiestNonk · 25/12/2019 13:59

Christ no! Xmas would be ruined!

DramaAlpaca · 25/12/2019 14:01

DH does the turkey, ham and gravy, I do the vegetables.

cakeallday · 25/12/2019 14:05

Yes - he now does all the cooking because we've had a role reversal where I work and he's a stay at home dad. Suits me Grin

Plus he's a better cook than I am!

Ellapaella · 25/12/2019 14:06

Yes my husband has always cooked Christmas dinner for the last 9 years... both our DC were born in December so I was usually too tired and busy breast feeding to be able to do it, he's done it ever since. He cooks a mean roast.

keepsmiling2015 · 25/12/2019 14:07

DH up late last night doing all the prep and cooking the dinner today as we speak. He's happy out in the kitchen and I'm happy out on the sofa!

Galvantula · 25/12/2019 14:22

Yup.

I'm doing all the helping DC assemble/put batteries in things.

Megan2018 · 25/12/2019 14:23

Yes DH cooks most meals anyway but always does Christmas Smile

Littleshortcake · 25/12/2019 14:25

back that's one of the sweetest stories so kind of your sons to keep up the tradition 😍
No my dh never cooks but he carves the turkey Xmas Confused but to be fair he changes the bins everyday and changes the bedlinen once a week. So I forgive him

AdorableMisfit · 25/12/2019 14:30

Yep, my husband always does the Christmas dinner. I tend to do the weeknight meals (as I'm currently on a career break so not working) and he does the complicated weekend/holiday meals.
