Royal Mail - we worked hard all night in my distribution centre to clear the mail so folks got deliveries today. It was panic stations at 4am but the we cleared the floor by 6am. We are closed Christmas Day but back on Boxing Day.

crankysaurus · 24/12/2019 21:54

Thank you Royal Mail, and other postal and mail order firms too.

Also anyone in food processing, making sure we have fresh bread over and after Christmas.

Yes thank you everyone.

It's gone full circle for us. 23yrs ago today I gave birth to DS2. We stayed in hospital overnight and were discharged Christmas morning. He's now a staff nurse and worked today, and is working tomorrow, in A&E.

Difficultcustomer · 24/12/2019 22:08

The staff and volunteers at Samaritans and other helplines available all year

The non clinical staff at hospitals - cooks, porters, cleaners, reception staff etc,

Also emergency services control rooms - the 111 and 999 services, coastguard, mountain rescue

Meals on wheels

Thank you to all of the above. We have a family member missing tomorrow due to work. We and they will be fine but it can be very hard on some families. And an extra thank you to lifeboat volunteers who may be in the middle of celebrating Christmas when their pager goes off. I know they will drop everything and run.

crankysaurus · 24/12/2019 22:14

Good call, Difficultcustomer, definitely everyone who makes everything come together and work, and everyone who's ready to help when we need it Brew

Oh yes, Merry Christmas at all contact centers.

Also zoo keepers and all those at sea keeping ships sailing in the right direction, plus dockers helping them moor and anyone working on cruise ships.

Merry Christmas one and all!

@crankysaurus thank you 😊

Entertainers and waiting staff! My DH is a musician, first year he hasn't been working since forever. Working NYE instead though.

ShowOfHands · 25/12/2019 10:28

DH worked the night shift last night (thin blue line) which meant that he came home after his 12hr shift in time to see the dc open their presents. First time he's managed to be here to see it and the dc are 12 and 8. It's magical. Raising a glass (well a mug of tea) to his colleagues who are doing the day shift.

Bloodybridget · 25/12/2019 11:33

Yes absolutely, huge thanks to everyone keeping things going for those of us who don't have to work. May your days be merry and bright!

Medicaltextbook · 01/01/2020 22:22

Just a thankyou to everyone that worked over New Year. Special shout out to those who weren’t actually working NYE, but couldn’t join in as much due to working New Year’s Day.

Dowser · 01/01/2020 22:51

My beloved grandson..had to work at McDonald’s
We had a family party last night and he was unable to come
They had three people in between 8pm and him finishing at 10pm
So too late for the party

Why?
