Where are all the disastrous Christmas threads?

Rafflesway · 24/12/2019 15:01

Every Christmas my guilty pleasure is reading all the Christmas disaster threads!

Certainly not car crashes, floods etc. but online shopping deliveries being incomplete or with ridiculous substitutes. Then Christmas Day I love the awful Christmas present threads and then by Boxing Day people who are stuck staying with relatives and being half starved, (exactly what happened to us last New Year 😥)

Now come on, you can't ALL have had perfect online deliveries! 🤣

Sorry for being an evil cow but those threads are fantastic and astonishing. Don't let me down! please

I'll start the ball rolling with a very lopsided cake, and meringue failing to fluff and rise. It's a sort of ratafia biscuit...

Not the end of the world, but I'm usually very reliable in the kitchen!

PseudoBadger · 24/12/2019 15:09

DP just tried to set the kitchen on fire whilst I was walking the dog. He accidentally knocked the electric knob which then heated up the tea light burner on top of it Xmas Shock

CigarsofthePharoahs · 24/12/2019 15:10

Well my gingerbread dough got left in the fridge too long and was a bit difficult to roll and shape.
Er...

I've got a problem with my frozen turkey crown.

First time ever I have bought my turkey crown early (fresh) and then frozen it. I got it out the freezer 7pm on Sunday evening and left it on the side in the kitchen until.10am yesterday when I popped.it in the fridge.
10am this morning got it out to butter up and prep etc and it's still a bit solid!!
We're currently sat with it on the coffee table (not that the kitchen is cold) but the lounge is the warmest room.
I can't believe it's still frozen.

LittleAndOften · 24/12/2019 15:12

DH has just decided to tell me what he wants for Christmas eve tea. We don't have any of it Hmm

Rafflesway · 24/12/2019 15:12

Ah that's a stinker sprinklemetinsel but I bet the lopsided cake still tastes fab!👍

You have a great one anyway!

I locked myself out of my house this morning Xmas Blush; had a keysafe fitted yesterday as I knew it was a matter of time because I only moved in a week ago and it's a different front door than I had for years at my previous house. I had think clothes on and my slippers.
Don't know anyone I don't know any of my neighbours yet
Does that count?

wonkytonkwoman · 24/12/2019 15:16

FFS extra words no idea where they came from!

Randomdogbite · 24/12/2019 15:17

2 children in my house are vomiting, I’m trying to keep the other one clear and myself! Is there anyway we can avoid it 😩 we are supposed to be going to stay with family tomorrow so have no Christmas treats really, mind you we won’t want them if we are throwing up 😕

DreamingofSunshine · 24/12/2019 15:22

@Randomdogbite if it gives you hope, last year I started throwing up at 3pm on the 23rd,about an hour after SIzl, BIL and their two children arrived. We had one bathroom between us all and lived very rurally so no hotels etc. No-one caught the bug off me which was a miracle with three children under 3.

Thefaceofboe · 24/12/2019 15:32

It was my job this year to get the Christmas desert (no one does xmas cake or Christmas pudding) so I ordered a chocolate reindeer cake, we’re all kids at heart... & it hasn’t shown up Confused I had 1 job...

twolungs · 24/12/2019 15:51

Just came on looking for a 'slightly traumatised' thread. Will this do? Xmas Confused

Why is it the hardest to be nice to your own family?

I had a Christmas card today from a family member, in which she described talking to my aunt who has not spoken to my Dad in twenty years and never seen me since a child. They fell out and she has refused to rekindle with him. Fair enough I don't expect her to censor it but surely you would think it might not be the best timing on Christmas eve??!

We then decided to go out for Christmas lunch today. One member of the family turned up looking like they had been sleeping in a hedge for a week (they haven't).

DM decided to pick up all the books in the pub (you know the old ones that are for show) and read us all the titles. I think I have feigned interest fatigue.

She then said lets talk about our year, what has gone well, and you know we can ask questions.

Right you mean let's have a conversation? Just to be clear because otherwise you know it could be confusing Grin

So far okay. Then she decided to tell me that I am making up having ADHD and having a diagnosis makes me a victim or something. Crown Hmm

Saved by dessert.

I am already thinking of booking to go away next year.

Rafflesway · 24/12/2019 16:32

Wonkytonkwoman please tell me you are not still shivering outside!
⛄️

Well at least you remembered your phone. 😹 seriously sounds like the sort of daft thing I would do

I've just had a phone call to say my dad has been admitted to hospital, probably terminally, which has completely fucked up our Christmas.

pinboard · 24/12/2019 17:08

Power cut most of day.
My Autistic 15 yr old has just taken apart the sitting room due to full autistic meltdown and accidentally broken the joint Christmas gift for him and his little sister (also ASD). He is in bits.
Their Dad, my exH is coming to see them here tomorrow (they wont go to his). This will in all probability make it worse.
Plus, my period is late, and I feel crap.
We were supposed to be going to a Carol service with friends (my only social event this December). It's not going to happen.

Still we are all still here and there is always tomorrow.
((()))) to those having a challenging time.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 24/12/2019 17:12

Got the turkey out, t’was mouldy packed dh off to buy one at 3pm.

Thanks Aldi who almost refused to refund it cause he took the wrong receipt in a hurry Angry

ScorpionQueen · 24/12/2019 17:13

Dh bought orange Bailey's instead of normal Bailey's and I wanted it in my coffee. Xmas Sad

Gin Wine Brew Cake Flowers for those having real disasters.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 24/12/2019 17:15

My cheese sauce (for cauli cheese) is lumpy. I have spent a long, long time trying to beat the lumps out of it. Nope.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 24/12/2019 17:18

I've broken out in hives. Possibly from stress, but I'm allergic to loads of stuff so who knows?

Had no antihistimines for people in the house so had to take the cat's.

Sigh.

PseudoBadger · 24/12/2019 17:23

I’m in Argos. We were wrapping having ditched the kids for an hour and somehow DS had twice as many presents as DD Xmas Blush
It’s busy

ClashCityRocker · 24/12/2019 17:23

Jesus witchdancer that puts it all into perspective. Sending good wishes.

danni0509 · 24/12/2019 17:24

@pinboard Thanks

Ds has Asd, this morning he smashed Xmas ornaments because I put a Santa app on my phone where Santa called him, i thought it was a nice thing to do but obviously not 🙈

Took ages to clear the glass up.

danni0509 · 24/12/2019 17:24

@WitchDancer Thanks

MrTumblePulledAKnifeOnMe · 24/12/2019 17:25

I burnt the custard for the trifle, luckily our village shop was still open.

I've had a few "you've ruined my christmas" messages on Etsy because their order hasn't arrived. Perhaps if you didn't leave it to the last minute....🤷‍♀️

LittleSweet · 24/12/2019 17:40

I'm allergic to soya. I found out this year. All my favourites have soya in them, toblerone, lindor and raffaellos. Cocoa gives me migraines. I'm also allergic to vanilla. The Christmas special biscuits dh bought have soya in them, he didn't check. I only found out about the raffaellos this afternoon when I was going to eat one. Dh and ds2 went out to get me some things I can eat. I also am on day 2 of a migraine. I'm so disappointed about the soya as it meant I couldn't have churros at the Christmas market we went to as they were fried in soya.
