Always. Christmas begins 🔔🔔🔔

WildRosie · 24/12/2019 08:20

This year's will be the first with the new Director of Music and also the first since Stephen Cleobury's recent passing. I wonder if the R4 announcer will mention these points, as well as the usual preamble ?

It’s the start of Christmas. Playing loudly in the kitchen whilst we get ready for the evening.

That was probably the best FONLACs I've heard. No disrespect to Stephen Cleobury but Daniel Hyde really made his mark here. The soloist on OIRDS was fantastic and Silent Night was similarly excellent.
Good job all round Smile. Still, I can't help feeling slightly hypocritical listening to the service, given I am neither a Christian nor a Christmas celebrant.

I loved it too. Always brings a tear to my eye and makes it feel like it is properly Christmas. I listen to it whilst getting the veg done for tomorrow.

Like WildRosie above I am not a believer either.

JacquesHammer · 24/12/2019 17:17

I catch up with it on Iplayer - love listening to the music but skip the rest.

Peony99 · 24/12/2019 17:17

I loved the bits I listened to

But I'm 39 weeks pg and Once in Royal and the Lamb mad me sob so I had to keep turning it off.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 24/12/2019 17:19

So so good. Liked the new carols, and the readings were 👌🏻

Drizzzle · 24/12/2019 17:21

Watching it on TV now? Is it later on TV then?

feellikeanalien · 24/12/2019 17:27

Just watching it on BBC2 now.

Nearly forgot but this thread reminded me. Don't know if I'll be able to watch it all as it reminds me too much of my darling mum who died unexpectedly last week.

tinselvestsparklepants · 24/12/2019 17:30

Listening now on catchup, wrapping presents. Christmas begins. Happy Christmas everyone!

FesteredFairy · 24/12/2019 17:54

It is better than it was about 10 to 15 years ago, but I am finding the music somewhat joyless? Singing is heavenly, enunciation perfect, but I am missing dynamics in the interpretation.

fussychica · 24/12/2019 19:12

Missed it, went to church. Our choir not in that league unfortunately but all good folk who give their time and love to sing. Christmas has now officially started and will iplayer Kings for maximum effectXmas Grin
