If you're planning on the classic 'new year lose some weight' plan. What are you doing? I'm after some inspiration..I don't care how cliche it is...!

Not to lose weight but I want to keep up the yoga and Pilates and maybe try boxercise.

Keepmewarm · 24/12/2019 13:52

Oh and continue with dance class

Wearing a pedometer every day. Good wake-up call as to how sedentary life actually is compared to how it should be (for me anyway).

My next step (come the new year) will be to take at least a daily walk (with husband - hits a relationship goal and his fitness at the same time), and start looking for other ways to increase the steps in daily life.

I've also decided to look into simple body-weight-only strength exercises (simple things like squats, sit-ups), and start tying them to routine things - a little bit by little bit, eg. brushing teeth? - time to do 10 squats.

The older I get, the more I believe in making small but simple lifestyle changes that you can continue doing.

I have ring circle fitness for the Nintendo switch. I'm planning on using it daily next year... it genuinely is a brutal workout so as long as I can keep motivated...lol...it should help with my fitness!

Swimming.. started last year and it’s brilliant.. gone from only being able to swim 20 x 25m lengths first time I got back in the water getting out to shaky legs to 1km in 24minutes front crawl.. feel healthier and toned too.. going to work on the eating healthier alongside next year.

Step up my running. Log my runs for the year. Enter some events

I've just started the 30 Day Shred. Two days down and my thighs are burning. But, being only 20 mins it's easily manageable. I also have a step tracker on my phone.

I realise I’m fortunate to be able to afford this, but I’m going to look into getting a personal trainer for a session once a week. This will hopefully focus my workouts and make me more confident doing things by myself. Pricey but I can just about afford it, and I’ve decided to really start prioritising my health and fitness.

Fitness Blender! You can do the videos free on YouTube but I recommend their workout calendars from their website- very affordable and you keep them forever. I'm starting a new one in the New Year- not to lose any weight but to tackle some new fitness goals.

I'm thinking of doing 30 days of yoga, but don't want it to be at the expense of doing less swimming or running and those have been going really well. I think it would help me though. Maybe I'll set an earlier alarm because I am often awake by half six anyway.

Iggleonkupsy · 24/12/2019 20:06

Thanks all, lovely to see what others are going to be doing 😊
A personal trainer would be wonderful, I've no idea how much they cost!

This time last year I resolved to do couch to 5k. It was honestly life changing. I would never have believed I could be a runner. Now I run 3 times a week, simply because I want to and I enjoy it. I'm happier, healthier, fitter, lighter and feel more in control of my life than ever before. Would recommend it to anyone.

ivykaty44 · 24/12/2019 20:48

I find yoga swishes my blood to much and I can end up feeling funny peculiar

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/12/2019 21:04

I ran 1000 miles this year so next year I want to run 1001 unlikely. I actually want to run less but do something else instead, eg boxercise or join the gym to tone up in a less intensive way because running is very hard on the joints.

I'm going to do a really strict diet overhaul in January- cutting out processed food and sugar and alcohol because my diet has gone to the wall recently.

I love January. 2 years ago my resolution was to start running, and I committed to run 10 minutes a day for the whole year (and I ended up running just shy of 1000 miles) then this year my goal was to beat that (which I did). I never believed I could be a runner, it changed my life!

snowone · 24/12/2019 21:05

Look up team RH on Facebook. This is what I will be doing!

Shenanagins · 24/12/2019 21:36

This time last year I signed up to do a marathon and I did it!

Next year I want to get back into running for fun and cutting back on sugar and processed foods.

Start riding again. Mine are both retired, but a friend who's just had a baby has given me a long-term loan of her 10-year-old horse. Just got to get my nerves back under control, as hitting the deck hurts a lot more in your 40s than it does in your 20s. I've bought myself a body protector though, and that's helped more than I thought it would with confidence.

shiveringsparklingtimber · 25/12/2019 08:35

I started WW in early September and lost steadily but slowly. Stopped counting points last week but will begin again on Boxing Day. I have to exercise every day, even if only a 20 minute walk, in order to stop gaining weight.

RubySlippers77 · 29/12/2019 23:24

@snowone the Team RH program looks awesome! If I can scrape together the money I'll go for it Smile

Hoping to walk 1000 miles again and join the lovely Facebook community doing the same!
