What do you do for fun?

Someone just asked me this. Following it up with ‘’real fun’ and I just realised I have no idea how to respond. I like my job, mess about online, occasionally go out with friends. But now that I think about it there’s not much fun in my life really.

What do you do for fun? Looking for some suggestions for the new year.

See friends. Go to comedy and music gigs.

WildCherryBlossom · 23/12/2019 22:52

As a couple we go and see live music a couple of times a year. On my own I enjoy crafts but I don't find much time to do it.

OhioOhioOhio · 23/12/2019 22:53

I was just discussing this with my friend. I don't know either.

Patsypie · 23/12/2019 22:54

Swim, read and go to the cinema. Sadly my other faves which are drinking, spending and smoking are stopping in the new year!

WildCherryBlossom · 23/12/2019 22:56

All hail drinking, spending and smoking. Fine hobbies, may they rest in peace.

Meet friends.
Walk the dog on the beach/in the woods.
Go on picnics in the mountains.
Swim.
Sew.
Paint.
Culture (seeing small bands, cinema, talks, poetry readings, workshops).

Being outside, being creative, laughing with DH, DS and friends, stroking the dog - kind of makes me high!

IM0GEN · 23/12/2019 22:57

I garden.

Charlottejbt · 23/12/2019 22:57

Listen to music. Go to free classical concerts in a local church. I realise this sounds like very tame "fun"!

Iggypoppie · 23/12/2019 22:59

Last fun I had was chap door run away. Being an adult is not 'fun'.

Iggleonkupsy · 23/12/2019 23:04

Things I like doing: comedy shows, adventurous things like zip wiring, canoeing, swimming, beach walks, mountain walks, camping. I basically love being outdoors. However, if you looked at my general week, I guess I seem quite boring. I go to work (and love my job) and come home most evenings and watch TV or mess about on here. I volunteer once a week and see various friends too.

Shannith · 23/12/2019 23:05

Ride.

Especially when it's windy and they go a bit jumpy (technical term).

BikeRunSki · 23/12/2019 23:07

Ride bikes
Walk in the hills
Go camping
The odd gig
All of the above with friends

Moominfan · 23/12/2019 23:13

Hiking
Gym
Yoga class
Child free dining
Coffee shop and a good book

Ceefax101 · 23/12/2019 23:16

Go to small gigs. I love live music.

BackforGood · 23/12/2019 23:28

Some of my volunteering is fun. Even when it is the more mundane stuff - meetings and the like - it can still be fun being with the other people I volunteer with.
At what point does 'to relax' or 'for pleasure' become "fun" ? Grin

Crunchymum · 23/12/2019 23:34

Drink too much and eat too much. All gone from Jan 1st. Sigh.

LifeofClimb · 23/12/2019 23:39

Cooking, sometimes. Depends on the food!

I have more fun in the summer... hiking, camping, cycling, wandering around the countryside. Swimming. Climbing.

At the moment in the evenings: reading books, listening to music, boxing, and sketching / painting. I’m also learning French.

It amuses me for a while.

Stompythedinosaur · 24/12/2019 01:08

Play board games. Bloody love them.

Go on adventurous holidays.

Spend time with my pets.
