We was up all night with what I thought was croup. Barking cough and struggling to breath, temp was 38.6, took him doc this morning and he said he’s ear is inflamed and give him antibiotics but DS says his ear isn’t even hurting. He’s not wanted food all day but is weeing and drinking, I’ve made him eat bits. I’m really worried it’s flu, his temp is currently 39.2 so just give nurofen but I’m panicking. He’s had 2nd dose of ABs. Should I take him Hosp or ride it out? I’m such a stress head, He’s just finished a course for an unexplained rash on his nose that has left holes, 3 docs didn’t know what it was, I’m worried. Have no faith in doctors but obviously don’t want to look like a lunatic mum and it’s so close to Christmas :(

Try alternating with Calpol every 2 hours and also phone 111

Hes unwell but eating and drinking and taking in medicine and having antibiotics. I'd say he hasn't broken his infection yet? Ypu should be able to ride it out.

111 are a really good sounding board, you can always request a call back from a nurse.

Alternate calpol and ibuprofen every 3 hours, double check hes on the right doses for a 6 year old. Keep him in loose long sleeve pjs and a light blanket.

Bit worried after his heavy breathing this morning so keep an eye on that and his drinking and peeing but otherwise my thoughts are hes best off getting better at home than being dragged out to wait in out of hours. Your intuition always knows best though Flowers

Yes I think you're right, he's just started coughing again and it sounds barky. Looks like another rubbish night ahead, I'll alternate medicine and hopefully we will both get some sleep tonight, if not then I'll take him. We have not had a temp all year and now at this time it's here with a vengeance. Typical x

If it’s croup, could try taking him outside for a bit-the cold air helped ds
