Reading some of the threads about people shopping at midnight; the stress; the hassle; inconsiderate shoppers; drama with frazzled shop assistants; food shortages etc etc

I saw none of that. Not even a hint.

Waitrose.... it was busy but everything in stock, nice buzz about the place, limited queue, zero drama or stress. Sometimes I wonder if I live on a different planet to some mumsnetters!

Anyone also had pleasant shopping experience today?!

I'm always hopeful, that the surge in home online deliveries (seeing as I couldn't get a slot with any supermarket past Saturday, a month in advance) would ease off the chaos in the supermarkets.

Sausagis · 23/12/2019 17:44

Marks, 9am Saturday - rammed. Unofficial one way system developed around the aisles with everyone shuffling around bumper-to-bumper Angry

MarshaBradyo · 23/12/2019 17:45

Very busy with a car park with very few spaces and cars circling. Other than that, fine.

managedmis · 23/12/2019 17:45

Ours was Fine but we live in Canada

1forAll74 · 23/12/2019 17:45

Mine was a pleasant shopping experience today, My son and his girlfriend are hosting Christmas day,and she forgot the sprouts, and I only needed a packets of ciggies, and a bit more cat food, so that was it, !

Kernowgal · 23/12/2019 17:54

Local Waitrose had 4x4s queuing out of the car park yesterday. Morrisons busy but ok, didn’t have to queue for long and everyone was cheerful. Nobody seemed particularly stressed.

EggysMom · 23/12/2019 17:56

I went to Asda this morning at 10, it was quite busy (think Saturday afternoon level) but very pleasant, everybody seemed to be in a good mood. I joked over sprouts with one gent, sang along to U2 with one woman, that kind of thing.

As I left (around 11) the car-park was mobbed and backed up round the roundabout to the main junction. I hate to think how busy the store would have got at that time.

IMWang · 23/12/2019 17:56

I went to Morrison's after work to get something for tea and I walked straight back out again. It was utter madness!

Freshprincess · 23/12/2019 17:58

Tesco was fine. Everything in stock, apart from, bizarrely English muffins. Bumped into a friend and we even stopped for a coffee.

About to start wrapping presents, but it looks like I’m going into Christmas Eve with almost everything done.

GertrudeCB · 23/12/2019 18:00

Tesco this morning was like the 7th circle of hell.

BaolFan · 23/12/2019 18:01

Sainsbury's and Tesco today. Both were busy but no more so than on a Saturday/Sunday.

Most people were quite polite and considerate - although you're always going to get those that charge round using their trolley like a tank.

I had an amusing exchange with a bloke who was bemoaning the quality of the loose parsnips; we both agreed they weren't worth having. I saw him a wee bit later and told him that I'd found a separate stash of decent ones and told him where they were. Felt like the supermarket edition of Very British Problems Grin

keeleysmum · 23/12/2019 18:01

SE - Trusty Waitrose delivered our food. No substitutions, no need to attempt the local Tesco or Sainsburys which are near to my idea of hell even when quiet.

Tiredmum100 · 23/12/2019 18:03

My food shop was easy. I wrote a list and dh went at 6 am before work this morning 👍

Baguetteaboutit · 23/12/2019 18:05

I went into m&s this morning and it was absolutely heaving, the shelves were half empty at 9:30 and then, on seeing the checkout queues snaking around the store, I decided I wasn't that keen on trifle anyway.

Nipped into Lidl on the way home and it was an oasis of calm and I decided I wasn't ready to give up in trifle after all.

MoltoAgitato · 23/12/2019 18:07

Tesco delivery yesterday was perfect. M&S for meat and bits and bobs today was extremely civilised at 8am. Not a vast selection of Turkey crowns etc but I got exactly what I needed. Tesco was much busier (Hunt for car park space) but queues well managed and bearable,

Under an hour from leaving house to closing fridge door.

Mountian · 23/12/2019 18:08

Tesco on Saturday afternoon was fine, very civilised. A few things they didn't have, so I got them from Morrisons on Sunday morning, when I picked up the pre-ordered turkey. Again, couldn't believe how calm everyone was, compared to previous years. Maybe we've all learned how to plan and shop better.

AutumnRose1 · 23/12/2019 18:08

Furry “ We went to Tesco (in Ireland) this morning, around 11 am, all was calm and peaceful. There were heaps of netted sprouts, parsnips, carrots, loads of fresh turkeys, and no queue at the checkouts. Got everything we needed (and more) and home in time for an afternoon doze. All good here!”

Shouldn’t this be

🎤
Tesco light
Tesco bright
There were he-eaps of net-ted sprouts
Parsnips, carrots and empty checkouts
Pick your turkey in pe-eace
And have an afternoon sleep.

Sorry 😳

lucysmam · 23/12/2019 18:15

I had my Tesco delivery this morning; the delivery driver said their store was manic! So glad I don't drive & book online.

scarbados · 23/12/2019 18:18

I went to Tesco this lunchtime and it was pretty quiet and civilised although they didn't have most of the things I wanted.

DH went down about an hour later - I think he has a Tesco addiction - and got himself the last sliced white loaf out of the rack. When he got to the checkout, someone had helped them self to it from his trolley. Grin

Troels · 23/12/2019 18:19

I went to Asda at 1pm, busy busy, but nice.
They had parking attendants directing traffic so they car park kept moving.
I wasn't in a checkout queue very long, everyone chatty and cheerful.
Worker at the next till said, "Should I close up in a half hour" Everyone in earshot started laughing. I imagine tomorrow will be busier.

FurryDogMother · 23/12/2019 18:19

@AutumnRose1 I love it! Very seasonal - Merry Christmas to you and yours :)

marvelousways · 23/12/2019 18:20

yes, I collected forr order from morrisons today at 10.15 and no one else at all was queing! Then popped into the main shop bit for a few bits and it was fine. Busy but totally manageable. Only one other perosn in front of me in the que. Much better than anticipated.

Oblomov19 · 23/12/2019 18:21

Went to Sainsbury's and Aldi this afternoon at 3pm. Totally fine, no real queues. The only thing both places never had was stuffing balls. I got everything else.

RiddleyW · 23/12/2019 18:24

Marks around lunchtime today was pretty rammed. Very long queues but well stocked - people restocking everywhere.

I was just getting a few bits rather than big shop. I’d always get that delivered!

Tanfastic · 23/12/2019 18:26

I was in Aldi at 2pm. No problem. No queues, just like a normal day 🤷🏼‍♀️
