Defrost in a cool room and put in the fridge once defrosted

Put it in the fridge then if it's still rock solid put it on the side to defrost over night Xmas Eve ready for Xmas day.

Won’t it have defrosted in time of you take it out today ?

Mrsemcgregor · 23/12/2019 16:33

Leave it out over night, it will be fine, move it to the fridge tomorrow morning. Tomorrow evening check for ice in the cavity. You should be fine.

What weight is it? NHS advice:

To work out the defrosting time for your turkey, first check the packaging for any guidance. If there aren't any defrosting instructions, use the following times to work out roughly how long it will take to thaw your turkey:

  • In a fridge at 4C (39F), allow 10 to 12 hours per kilogram. Be aware that not all fridges will be set to this temperature.
  • In a cool room (below 17.5C/64F), allow around 3to4hours per kilogram, or longer if the room is particularly cold.
  • At room temperature (about 20C/68F), allow approximately2 hours per kilogram.

When your turkey is fully defrosted, put it in the fridge until you're ready to cook it. If this isn't possible, make sure you cook it immediately.

I would leave it out of the fridge overnight (or whenever the kitchen is cool but not as cold as the fridge) for the next two nights to speed things up.

I would take it out tomorrow morning and leave in a cool room to defrost. Put it in the fridge overnight tomorrow and it should be ok for Christmas day
